For many years in many Western Europe countries, cycling has been associated with not only recreation and tourism but has equally gained an important function as a means of transport used in everyday commuting to work, study and entertainment. The bicycle appears to be a very good alternative to motor vehicles that produce exhaust fumes and create congestion on road transport networks. Not only is the bicycle environmentally friendly and takes up little space in road transport networks, but also, the time of bicycle travel is often competitive in relation to travel made by private car or public transport. This article presents the characteristics of the bicycle infrastructure and services offered in selected cities in the world and Poland, as well as the issues of bicycle counters as sources of data on bicycle traffic volume, along with an exemplary analysis of this type of data.

The article discusses the basic aspects related to the functioning of the city bike system as a means of transport to meet transport needs in Radom. Attention is drawn to the growing importance of displacements using the municipal bicycle system in handling transport needs in cities.The system characteristics were presented and selected statistical data describing the Radom City Bike were presented.

W wielu polskich miastach można zauważyć wzrost inwestycji w zakresie infrastruktury rowerowej. Jest to bezpośrednim wynikiem wzrostu zainteresowania rowerem, jako środka codziennego transportu, jak również sposobu na spędzenie wolnego czasu. Prognozy pokazują, że tendencja ta będzie się dalej utrzymywać a zainteresowaniem rowerem nie będzie słabnąć. W związku z tym wydaje się celowe zwrócenie uwagi na szereg aspektów związanych z eksploatacją tego rodzaju środka transportu, w tym najważniejszego układu w jaki wyposażony jest rower, czyli układu hamulcowego. W artykule przedstawiono wybrane problemy dotyczące eksploatacji układów hamulcowych rowerów.

In many Polish cities, an increase in investments in the area of cycling infrastructure can be noticed. This is a direct result of increased interest in cycling as a means of everyday transport as well as a way to spend free time. Forecasts show that this trend will continue and interest in cycling will not diminish. Therefore, it seems advisable to pay attention to a number of aspects related to the operation of this type of transport, including the most important system in which the bicycle is equipped, i.e. the braking system. The article presents selected problems regarding the operation of bicycle brake systems.

W wyniku wzrostu liczby pojazdów poruszających się po polskich drogach, stan bezpieczeństwa na przestrzeni ostatnich lat uległ dużej zmianie. Ryzyko wystąpienia kolizji lub wypadku drogowego zwiększyło się na skutek wzrostu natężenia ruchu. Statystyki policyjne wskazują, że jednym z uczestników kolizji są osoby poruszające się rowerem. W praktyce sądowej w trakcie rozpatrywania spraw dotyczących wypadków drogowych z udziałem rowerów bardzo często niezbędnym jest określenie zachowania się kierującego w chwili przed zaistnieniem zdarzenia. Do tego celu przydatna może być wiedza dotycząca osiąganej drogi hamowania, czy też opóźnienia hamowania rowerów. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań procesu hamowania różnego typu układów hamulcowych i rowerów.

As a result of the increase in the number of vehicles traveling on Polish roads, the state of security has changed sig-nificantly in recent years. The risk of a collision or traffic accident has increased as a result of increased traffic. Police statistics show that one of the participants in the collision are people who are cycling. In court practice, when dealing with cases relating to road accidents involving bicycles, it is often necessary to determine the behavior of the driver at the time before the event occurred. For this purpose, knowledge about the braking distance achieved or the braking time of the bicycle can be useful. The article presents the results of testing the braking process of various types of brake systems and bicycles.

Podstawą do rozważań są przykłady systemów roweru publicznego i infrastruktury związanej z komunikacją rowerową Warszawy, wybranych miast Polski oraz wybranych miast Europy.

It presents the most important factors influencing the choice of the bicycle as a means of transport within the urban area. Zwiększająca się liczba rejestrowanych pojazdów świadczy nie tylko o wzroście zamożności społeczeństwa, ale również o ich preferencjach mobilności. W aglomeracjach miejskich, nie tylko dużych, jest problemem, jak przygotować obszar miejski do funkcjonowania tych środków transportu. Przy tak dużej, jak dziś, liczbie samochodów poruszających się po drogach problemem staje się nie tylko kongestia, czyli zatłoczenie na szlakach komunikacyjnych, ale również znalezienie miejsca do zaparkowania. Aby „rozładować” ruch w mieście, władze miast w różny sposób szukają sposobów na taką organizację transportu, aby miasta nie były zatłoczone oraz by to rozwiązanie odpowiadało wszystkim użytkownikom. W artykule przedstawiono ewolucję środków transportu, jakimi się przemieszczano. Następnie omówiono dostępność do danych środków transportu, a także scharakteryzowano pojęcie dostępności i jej podział. Zaprezentowano prekursorów zajmujących się badaniem dostępności. Dokonano podziału rowerów. Omówiono zmiany w postrzeganiu roweru jako środka transportu. Przedstawiono istotę, zakres działania oraz zasięg funkcjonowania sieci rowerów miejskich. Zaprezentowano plan funkcjonowania, zasięg oraz cennik szczecińskiego roweru miejskiego, jego rolę oraz funkcję uzupełniającą w komunikacji miejskiej. Zamieszczono również zasady korzystania z roweru miejskiego.

Increasing number of bicycles proves not only the growth of prosperity of the society but also their preferences as far as mobility is concerned. In the agglomerations, not only large ones, a problem arises how to prepare space for operation of this mean of transport. In the situation with big number of vehicles travelling on the roads not only congestion but also space for parking is a challenge. Cities’ authority are searching for measures to organize a transport which does not cause congestion and is satisfying for all users. In the article the transformation of transport means is presented. Then accessibility to the transport is discussed and definition of accessibility and its division are given. Precursors involved in the study of availability were presented. There is also a division of bicycles presented. Changes in the perception of a bicycle as a mean of transport is discussed. The idea and scope of operation of rental bicycle system is presented. The article also includes information concerning the schedule, perspective of development and tariff of the Szczecin city bike as well as description of its function as a complementary public transport. It also provides rules of the use of urban bicycles.
