Our analysis will focus on evaluating organizational ethics as a new theoretical paradigm and presenting its practical dimension. We will point out its interdisciplinary nature, the context of new trends in managerial and organizational theory. We consider applied ethics to be an important prerequisite for building its theoretical and practical intent. This specific scientific area is significantly involved in creating ethical competencies, advising on the creation of ethical frameworks of different types of organization. An emphasis will be put on the importance of organizational ethics in building the ISO quality systems.

We spend a substantial part of our lives in employment, in the work environment among our co-workers. A working group is comprised of people who are very different but converge together in their need for communication and joint action. Therefore, especially in the workplace, standards of social behaviour must be respected. The ability to create, maintain and lead work teams is one of the most important conditions for successful management and the manager's personality is important. Status of the manager has high social prestige. It is related to working conditions, the distinctive character of their work, the degree of responsibility and professional culture, their vocation, professional and moral performance, as well as overall personality profile. Effective leadership is based on respect and trust.

The presented study focuses on the role of applied ethics(cist) in managing the quality of life in the post-risk society. Given that, from an ethical point of view, it is appropriate to reflect the quality of life also through other than quantitative, i.e. objective and therefore also measurable indicator, it is important to be also focused on the action of a person that leads to increasing his/her satisfaction, the feeling of happiness as a subjective indicator. The aim of this study is to point out the importance of ethical parameterization of the quality of life as well as the search for suitable concepts in its fulfilment.

Mapping values and goals of sustainable development has resulted in a number of diverse evaluation instruments – sustainability indicators. For the experts in applied ethics, this inventory of indicators represents a general value inventory, which requires attention, ethical review and ethical audit to determine the extent to which these values support the sustainability ethos and are a desirable and correct part of the value structures in the society. In an environment characterised by value pluralism and institutional complexity of sustainable development, the organisations implementing sustainable development projects face a range of problems in their struggle to achieve the relevant goals while having to address social, economic, and environmental commitments. Transdisciplinarity, as a new way to organise research, reflects in the new organisational and institutional processes. It represents a new type of cooperation among scholars from different fields, practical experts and organisations (regional and international) – and a new type of research. This indicates that issues pertaining to ecology, ethics and other fields cross the borders and the individual disciplines are cooperating.

The paper focuses on the role of applied ethics as an academic science and its contribution to society. We cannot agree with the claim that the current crisis related to humanities is due to the fact that they are "not profitable". We want to point to the importance and usefulness of humanities and confirm that their current crisis is not caused by a lack of their profit. As today´s social demands start calling again for building values and a good name, we are sure that applied ethics is able to provide an expert service, develop values and skills including moral imagination, empathy, and critical rationality. As an example of ethical service and the development of ethical culture, we present briefly the academic ethics at the University of Matej Bel.

Building the credibility of different businesses and organizations is currently a complex process, but a very effective tool in practice and hard competition. They are increasingly confronted with a challenging environment in which credibility is very perceived and strategically important. Not only business entities, but also public institutions, strive for good reputation. They care about it as politicians, athletes, universities, nonprofit artists, media, but also individuals who work in public or professional relationships. Credibility is understood not only as a complementary image, but also as a value preference, a significant market prestige, a socially important function that achieves greater success, recognition, moral credibility, appreciation of organizational effort or good service. Building and understanding the importance of the credibility of social subjects also becomes an expression of stability, integrity, or firm security.

At present, there is a renewed interest in interdisciplinarity in connection with the new mission of the humanities. It is related to their longer-term adaptation to new scientific challenges and social trends. Also, in Slovakia, there is a strong call for a more active activation of the humanities to interdisciplinary cooperation and participation in social change. It is necessary to overcome these barriers and their relative closure. The paper discusses the basic attributes of interdisciplinarity, its application possibilities and social significance. Interdisciplinary approach and its correct understanding can become a constructive tool in the humanities, in the creation of integrated research projects, for their acceptance in practice. The innovative force of applied ethics is related to the availability of competence in interdisciplinarity.

The current labor market requires dynamic and broadly competent university graduates. An international trend is to promote the teaching of transversal competences. These are not only related to a particular study program or future profession, but are universally applicable in different professions, thus promoting job mobility and flexibility of persons. This is a system of competence-based learning. Universities are currently undergoing paradigmatic changes in the university education system. The paper monitors international and home experiences and recommendations for the development of the competences that prepare graduates for life in society. It specially examines the position of the students´ social and ethical competences. These findings are compared with the results of own research focused on the development of students' ethical competences through the Professional Ethics course at EF UMB.

We characterize the epistemic community as a cooperative group consisting of different participants, aimed to the solving of actual problems in the aspect of improving the well-being. The contribution of the epistemic community is in improving of implementation of ethics to the different areas of practice through the mutual cooperation of the ethical expert and relevant experts from the actual problem area.

Charakteryzujemy społeczność epistemiczną jako grupę współdziałającą, składającą się z różnych uczestników, której celem jest rozwiązywanie rzeczywistych problemów dotyczących poprawy samopoczucia. Wkład wspólnoty epistemicznej polega na poprawie wdrażania etyki w różnych dziedzinach przez współpracę eksperta etycznego i odpowiednich ekspertów z rzeczywistego obszaru problemowego.

The study deals with the current development of business ethics as well as with actual discourse in Slovakia and abroad. In principle, there is a stronger trend in the application of methodical paradigms within the so-called weak peoples. In this context, it is not just about ethical coherence, contextualism and communitarism, but also about postfundationism. To reflect on the need for changes in the intentions of the postfundation paradigm we have directed our knowledge of the study of business ethics in the world as well as in Slovakia. The idea of postfundation and casualty becomes an important inspiration for the further development of business ethics in Slovakia as recognized methods in education and business ethics to gain the prestige in business practice.

Artykuł dotyczy aktualnego rozwoju etyki biznesu, a także aktualnego dyskursu na Słowacji i za granicą. W zasadzie istnieje silniejszy trend w stosowaniu metodycznych paradygmatów w tak zwanych słabych narodach. W tym kontekście chodzi nie tylko o spójność etyczną, kontekstualizm i komunitaryzm, ale także o postfundacjonizm. Aby zastanowić się nad potrzebą zmian w założeniach paradygmatu postfundacyjnego, skierowaliśmy naszą wiedzę na temat studiów nad etyką biznesu na świecie, a także na Słowacji. Idea postfundacji stała się ważną inspiracją do dalszego rozwoju etyki biznesowej na Słowacji jako uznanych metod edukacji i etyki biznesowej, aby zyskać prestiż w praktyce biznesowej.

Demograficzny aspekt związany ze starzeniem się społeczeństwa jest ostrzeżeniem. Z jednej strony, jest to rzeczywisty naturalny proces życia człowieka i społeczeństwa, ale z drugiej strony w ostatnim czasie zaobserwować można niepokojący fakt – społeczeństwo zbyt szybko starzeje się, a nowych ludzi rodzi się coraz mniej. Prezentowany artykuł próbuje odpowiedzieć na pytania: kogo obecnie nazywamy starym człowiekiem oraz w jaki sposób etyka stosowanan może być pomocna przy opiece nad tak sklasyfikowanym człowiekiem w społeczeństwie. Jednocześnie ważnym elementem tego studium będą różne modele opieki na seniorami.

This article attempts to answer the questions that we now call the old man and how ethics can be helpful in the care of such a classified person in society. Our reasoning is based on the belief that contemporary applied ethics are closely related to innovation and the creation of good life. At present, it is increasingly connected with technical sciences or art. An increased risk has shown that applied ethics are not only a fashion trend, but also an important part of human protection, control of dubious practices of companies and public institutions, quality of life, environment as well as assessments of the impact of modern technologies. Its current theoretical potential and implementation experience suggest that it can be an important part of positive change and humanity's vitality. Its underperformance can lead to serious consequences and an increase in social collisions. Applied ethics is not only a tool for solving problems, but also by setting up preventive mechanisms and project creation and vision for the future.

Nasze rozumowanie opiera się na przekonaniu, że współczesne etyki stosowane są ściśle związane z innowacją i tworzeniem dobrego życia. Obecnie coraz częściej łączy się je z naukami technicznymi i sztuką. Zwiększone ryzyko wykazało, że etyki stosowane są nie tylko modnym trendem, ale również ważnym elementem ochrony człowieka, kontroli wątpliwych praktyk firm i instytucji publicznych, jakości życia, ochrony środowiska, a także oceny wpływu nowoczesnych technologii. Ich obecny potencjał teoretyczny i doświadczenie wdrożeniowe sugerują, że mogą być ważną częścią pozytywnej zmiany i żywotności ludzkości. Niewydolność może prowadzić do poważnych konsekwencji i narastania społecznych zderzeń. Etyka stosowana jest nie tylko narzędziem do rozwiązywania problemów, ale także tworzy mechanizmy zapobiegawcze oraz projekt i wizję przyszłości.

Ponadto w artykule wskazano, jakie są możliwości wdrożenia nowego paradygmatu etyki stosowanej w koncepcji zrównoważonego rozwoju i jaka jest rola różnych subdyscyplin etyki stosowanej w rozwiązywaniu problemów zrównoważonego rozwoju. Zestawiono konsumpcyjny styl życia z życiem zrównoważonym z etyczno-krytycznej perspektywy, wskazując na zależności między jakością życia, stylem życia i trwałością życia.

This article refers to the ethical principles present in the idea of sustainable development. The authors points out, how the application of ethical principles is present in the National concept of sustainable development of Slovakia. In addition, the article points out the possibilities of applying the new paradigm of applied ethics in the concept of sustainable development and the role of different sub-disciplines of ethics used in solving problems of sustainable development. Consumed lifestyles have been set up with a balanced life from ethical-critical perspective, indicating the relationship between quality of life, lifestyle and sustainability.

Today, the pursuit of sustainability has new horizons and new Approaches as an expedient heuristic that understands sustainability as the importance of balancing the competing priorities: the environmental protection, the economic growth, and the social equity. That is more a practical effort, rather than as a purely scientific concept. Recent vision of Human Development was equated only by economic growth gradually compensating also in the direction to fulfil social objectives; namely to reduce poverty, improve quality of life, improving opportunities for better quality of education and health. Such a re-orientation requires a comprehensive approach to the management sustainability of ties interaction between natural and human, sectoral and structural aspects of development at all levels. As part of this knowledge and realisation, ethical counselling has important place, in terms of practise. In this paper we think about social awareness, acceptance and practical applicability of ethical experts in Slovakia. Our goal is understanding of ethical consulting in decision-making framework of sustainability. Assessing of social sustainability and supporting these processes entrusted to a professional – ethical adviser can make context of starting point for good life and for social practise. Based on needs analysis of ethical guidance we offer suggestion and recommendations for Ethical counselling, especially at the level of professional training in educational models applied ethics in Slovakia.

Wysiłki zmierzające do zapewnienia zrównoważonego rozwoju zyskały obecnie nowe horyzonty, zaś nowe podejścia są użyteczną i celowościową heurystyką, która traktuje zrównoważony rozwój jako równowagę konkuren-cyjnych priorytetów: ochrony środowiska, dobrobytu ekonomicznego i sprawiedli-wości społecznej. Niedawna wizja rozwoju ludzkości utożsamiana jedynie z dobrobytem ekonomicznym została skorygowana z uwzględnieniem celów społecznych, sprowadzających się w szczególności do ograniczenia ubóstwa, poprawy jakości życia, zapewnienia szans na lepszą edukację i zdrowie. Tego typu zmiana orientacji wymaga kompleksowego podejścia do zarządzania relacjami między naturalnymi i ludzkimi, sektorowymi i strukturalnymi aspektami zrównoważonego rozwoju na wszystkich szczeblach. To raczej praktyczny wysiłek niż czysta wiedza i naukowe podejście. Zważywszy na tę konkluzję i jej realizację, doradztwo etyczne, jeśli mowa o praktyce, zajmuje bardzo ważne miejsce. W artykule podejmuję kwestie świadomości społecznej, akceptacji i praktycznego wykorzystania ekspertów w zakresie etyki na Słowacji. Moim celem jest promowanie zrozumienia doradztwa etycznego w procesach decyzyjnych i ocenie zrównoważonego rozwoju społecznego. Powierzenie profesjonalistom – doradcom etycznym – oceny zrównoważonego rozwoju społecznego i wspierania jego procesów może budować kontekst i być punktem wyjścia dla dobrego życia oraz praktyki społecznej. Na podstawie analizy potrzeb postępowania etycznego wskazuję wnioski i zalecenia dotyczące doradztwa etycznego, w szczególności w obszarze przygotowania zawodowego na kierunku etyki stosowanej w modelach edukacji wyższej.

Sustainability and sustainable development are the keywords of the 21st Century – the frequently used magic symbol of policies, strategies, programmes, plans in the form of sustainable communities, regions and responsible organisational practice. It is obvious that the approach to developmental needs to change from the outdated qualitative, Aristotelian, and Rortyan viewpoints and a shift towards something more sophisticated, just, responsible, moral and therefore good and stemming from Phronesis. The study proceeds as follows: firstly, a discourse analysis is employed to demonstrate how sustainability as the magic symbol has transformed into a value tool (bottomdown approach) in the course of the last decade; secondly, sustainability will be deconstructed in order to outline new horizons and evaluation tools; and thirdly, the competences of the applied ethics in the area of creation, implementation and evaluation of sustainable policies, programmes and projects (bottom-up approach), i.e. in the CETIP Incubator – Centre for Ethical Consulting at the Department of Ethics and Applied Ethics, Faculty of Arts, Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica.

Trwałość i zrównoważony rozwój stały się pojęciami XXI wieku, częstym magicznym symbolem polityk, strategii, programów, planów, również w postaci wskaźników zrównoważonych społeczności, regionów czy odpowiedzialnych praktyk organizacyjnych. Rozwój, jak się okazuje, musimy zacząć rozumieć inaczej niż dotychczas, jakościowo, po arystotelesowsku i rorty’owsku, tzn. nie utożsamiać go ze wzrostem (ilością, poszerzaniem, powiększaniem), lecz z czymś jakościowo doskonalszym, lepszym, bardziej sprawiedliwym, odpowiedzialniejszym, moralniejszym, a więc z dobrym, związanym z cnotą fronesis. W swojej pracy zamierzam postępować następująco: po pierwsze, poprzez analizę dyskursywną spróbuję pokazać, że w ostatniej dekadzie następuje transformacja zrównoważonego rozwoju jako magicznego symbolu, na narzędzie ewaluacji (Top-down approach); po drugie, poprzez dekonstrukcję zrównoważonego rozwoju wskażę na nowe horyzonty i narzędzia ewaluacji; i wreszcie po trzecie, postaram się dowiedzieć, jakie kompetencje przysługują etyce stosowanej w kreowaniu, realizacji lub ewaluacji polityk, programów czy projektów zrównoważonego rozwoju (bottom-up approach), np. w inkubatorze etycznym CETIP – Centrum Doradztwa Etycznego przy Katedrze Etyki i Etyki Stosowanej na Wydziale Filozoficznym Uniwersytetu im. Mateja Bela w Bańskiej Bystrzycy.

The company's good name is its price and value in the market, longterm market stability, good public response and pride, higher loyalty as well as employee motivation. In the long run, this important attribute has been associated with the economic aspect and quality. Today, however, we recognize that good name should be built and maintained not only by economic instruments but also by corporate culture and way of acting towards stakeholders, citizens or employees. Good name is closely related to the credibility that we understand as a form of positive reflection of the functioning of companies and institutions, as a non-material phenomenon with significant moral content. Experts in applied ethics can assist in the field and study. They can provide expert service through ethical and ethical advice.

Dobre imię firmy to jej cena i wartość na rynku, długoterminowa stabilność na rynku, dobry odbiór publiczny i duma, wyższa lojalność i motywacja pracowników. W dłuższej perspektywie ważny atut związany jest z aspektem ekonomicznym i jakością. Dziś jednak uznajemy, że dobre imię należy budować i utrzymywać nie tylko za pomocą instrumentów ekonomicznych, ale także przez kulturę korporacyjną i poprzez działania wobec udziałowców, obywateli lub pracowników. Dobre imię jest ściśle związane z wiarygodnością, którą rozumiemy jako formę pozytywnej refleksji na temat funkcjonowania firm i instytucji, jako zjawisko niematerialne z istotną treścią moralną. Eksperci z etyki stosowanej mogą pomóc w tej dziedzinie i nauczać. Mogą świadczyć usługi eksperckie za pomocą etyki i porad etycznych.

The 21st century man desires happiness (happier, better life), just like his forefront in the dawn of history. What, however, do the movements of the contemporary differ in fulfilling the ideal of happiness from the man of the past? Who or what could help to achieve this ideal? The study attempts to point to different areas of life of man and society in fulfilling the model of happiness. We assume that ethics - applied ethics - can be one of the most effective tools to approach this desire, hope, vision or dream. The case study points to this option.

Człowiek XXI wieku pragnie szczęścia (szczęśliwszego, lepszego życia), podobnie jak jego przodkowie w początkach dziejów. Czym jednakże ruchy współczesne różnią się w realizacji ideału szczęścia od człowieka z przeszłości? Kto i co może pomóc w osiągnięciu tego ideału? Badania wskazują na różne obszary życia człowieka i społeczeństwa w spełnianiu modelu szczęścia. Zakładamy, że etyka − stosowana etyka − może być jednym z najbardziej skutecznych narzędzi do realizacji tego pragnienia, nadziei, wizji czy marzenia. Studium przypadku wskazuje na tę opcję.
