Angular momentum pumps are very often applied on-board ships. These pumps are used in cooling circuits of medium and high power engines, power plant boilers as well as bilge, ballast and fire installations. Such an extensive use of angular momentum pumps on board is connected with their numerous advantages. However, during operation the wear of marine hull, the rotor and shaft seals take place. The research attempts to increase the service life of shafts. The article presents the research results referring to the analysis of the influence of finish treatment (finishing turning, grinding, burnishing) on the friction properties of steel applied to marine pump shafts. The research was performed on a roller 39 mm in diameter made of 304L stainless steel. The finish tooling of pump shaft pins was carry out on a universal centre lathe. The finish turning process was carried out by means of a WING WF 080408 Sandvik Coromant cutting tool with replaceable inserts. The grinding process was performed by grinding attachment for lathes. The 1 – 80x10x32 – 99C 80-N V grinding wheel was used for the process. The process of burnishing was done by SRMD single roll burnishing tool by Yamato. The burnishing process was carried out at the following technological parameters: burnishing force 1.1 kN, burnishing speed 35 m/min, feed 0.13 mm/rev. In addition, the influence of the number of burnishing tool passes on the friction was determined. The paper will present the research results of test on the friction properties examination of samples after finish machining. The experiment was performed on T-05 block-on-ring wear tester.

Centrifugal angular momentum pumps are utilized in the cooling system of high and medium speed engines, for supplying boilers, in bilge systems, ballast systems and in firefighting installations. Such an extensive use of angular momentum pumps on board is connected with their numerous advantages. However during operation the wear of marine hull, the rotor and shaft seals takes place. The research aimed at examining the improvement of operating durability of marine pumps in place of seals mounting. The service properties are related to contact wear tests, tribologic wear and electrochemical corrosion that are to be carried out. The paper presents the first stage of tribologic wear tests which dealt with the selection of counter sample material and of the lubricating agent for the tribosystem. A roller made of stainless X5CrNi18-10 steel was used for the research. The process of sample surface finish lathing was performed by a cutting tool provided with super finish plates Wiper type by Sandvik Coromant. On the basis of the results obtained the counter sample material was defined (C45 steel) for performing appropriate tribologic tests. The lubricant for the matched tribologic couple was chosen to be the machine oil enriched with an improver.

Angular momentum pumps are frequently applied on board ships. As the pumps are working in hard conditions they are made from materials resistant to cavitation wear and electrochemical corrosion. The most popular damage of pump shaft is neck wear in place where seals are mounted. Burnishing, as modern finish plastic tooling method, makes it possible to get high technological quality of elements. The proposed process of burnishing shaft pins is designed to increase the service life of marine seawater pump shaft installations, which should enhance the economic effect. Thanks to its numerous advantages burnishing was proposed to angular momentum pumps shafts tooling instead of finish machining (finish turning, grinding, lapping). The goal was to estimate optimal burnishing parameters which enable receiving biggest strengthening and lowest roughness factor of angular momentum pumps shafts. The tool used was one-roll burnishing tool SRMD type produced by Yamato. The aim of this study was to determine the internat stresses occurring in the subsurface layer after machining carried out, and after burnishing the surface of marine pump shaft pins made of X5CrNH810 stainless steel.

Proces nagniatania przeprowadzono nagniatakiem jednorolkowym SRMD firmy Yamato. Podczas procesu technologicznego zastosowano zoptymalizowane parametry nagniatania, umożliwiające uzyskanie największego stopnia względnego umocnienia warstwy wierzchniej i zmniejszenia chropowatości powierzchni czopów wałów okrętowych pomp krętnych wykonanych ze stali nierdzewnej X5Cr Nil 8 10. Celem pracy było określenie wpływu liczby przejść nagniataka na poprawę twardości i chropowatości czopów wałów pomp okrętowych.

Angular momentum pumps are frequently applied in marine installations. Due to hard working conditions of these pumps, special corrosion wear resistant materials as well as the ones resistant to electrochemical corrosion caused by sea water are used for their production. In case of pump shafts the most frequent inefficiency is the pin wear (corrosive wear, friction wear and contact wear) in place of sealings assembly (throttle). Burnishing as finish plastic tooling method enables obtaining machine elements of proper technological quality. Bearing in mind numerous advantages of using burnishing, it is suggested to apply it instead of machining (finish turning, grinding, polishing) to the shafts of marine angular momentum pumps. The burnishing process was carried out by SRMD single roll burnishing tool by Yamato. The object of the paper was to determine the influence of burnishing parameters and the number of burnishing tool passes on the improvement of roughness, plastic deformation and the shape deviation of marine pumps crank pins.
