This present study to determine the potential of Neptunia oleracea as a phytoremediation agent for petroleum liquid waste in terms of various parameters such as physical temperature, and chemical parameters, namely pH, sulfide, and ammonia. Crude oil liquid waste is a hazardous waste if discharged directly into the environment, especially water. In this research, a method of biological treatment of petroleum liquid waste was used by utilizing aquatic plants, namely Neptunia oleracea. Phytoremediation is a way to treat waste that still contains contaminants thus levels can be minimized and even accumulated by various types of plants. This phytoremediation technique uses a simple bioreactor with various concentrations of petroleum liquid waste, namely control (0% waste), 10% waste, 20% waste, and 30% waste. The results of this study can be seen that the Neptunia oleracea plant is able to survive in petroleum liquid waste with a treatment time of approximately 3 weeks. In testing the levels of ammonia and sulfide after treatment showed fluctuating results from week to week. This is a response from Neptunia oleracea which uses these compounds in its metabolic processes. The ability of Neptunia oleracea to reduce sulfide and ammonia levels indicates that this plant can be used as a phytoremediation agent for petroleum liquid waste.
Opisano szanse i wyzwania stojące przed rozwojem transgranicznego rynku „zielonego” wodoru w UE.

The chapter describes the attempts to use ammonia as an energy raw material. The origin of the name ammonia is given. Its structure and current methods of use have been described, indicating the significant role of hydrogen – also in water, methane and other hydrocarbons. The authors refer to the revised Japanese energy policy and the roadmap in which hydrogen, but above all ammonia, have a fundamental role to play. They show the role of hydrogen and hydrocarbon products in energy production. The Japanese roadmap outlines the path to a zero-carbon economy by 2050. It also points to the disadvantages of hydrogen transmission and storage infrastructure in the face of much easier logistics for ammonia. The possible role of graphene as a material for hydrogen storage is marked. The opportunities and challenges facing the development of the cross-border „green” hydrogen market in the EU are described. And the similarity is shown with the aim of achieving Europe’s climate neutrality by 2050, the main goals of which are no net emissions of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere and a decoupling of economic growth from resources. The role of hydrogen in the assumptions of this climate policy cannot be overestimated. It is primarily intended to replace fossil fuels in those sectors that cannot be fully electrified and allow the storage of electricity generated from RES in the period of oversupply.
The paper shows the possibility of using chlorophyll-synthesizing microalgae of Chlorella vulgaris to purify biogas from carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and ammonia (NH3). Experimental dependences of the dynamics of CO2 uptake by microalgae under the action of H2S inhibitor and NH3 activator were presented. A mathematical description of the growth of biomass of microalgae Chlorella vulgaris, depending on the concentration of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia, was obtained. The optimal values of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia concentration for the efficient process of carbon dioxide uptake by chlorophyll-synthesizing microalgae Chlorella vulgaris from biomethanization gas were established.
This study investigated the nitrogen removal performance in wetland microcosms individually planted with different plant monocultures, including emergent, free-floating and submerged plants during ammonia removals, or large- and small-leaf free-floating plants during nitrate removal. For ammonia-dominated wastewater, both emergent (common reed) and free-floating (water hyacinth) plants in wetland microcosms achieved higher total nitrogen removals than a submerged plant (eelgrass) that significantly improved the microbial nitrifying performance. For nitrate-dominated wastewater, efficient nitrate removals in wetland microcosms planted with free-floating plant were achieved by both a full cover of water surface and the concentration of organic oxygen-consuming substances, which resulted in low dissolved oxygen levels and boosted microbial denitrification in wetland microcosms. FWS-CW developers and managers should thus pay close attention to the selection of wetland plant types and optimize their design to achieve optimum nitrogen removal performance.
Urea fertilizers in agricultural operations usually tend to produce large amounts of ammonia due to hydrolysis, therefore contribute to the air pollution. The purpose of this study was to study the potential black liquor from pulp industry as urease inhibitor. Characterization of the black liquor was carried out by Spectrophotometer Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) and Thermal Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA) instruments. Meanwhile, the determination of ammonia levels was carried out using UV-spectrophotometer. The black liquor used in this process contains OH stretching, C=O stretching, an aromatic ring vibration, ring vibration, and guaiacil ring vibration indicating the presence of lignin. TGA primary weight loss in black liquor occurs above 200 °C. The addition of urease enzymes to urea tends to increase the release of ammonia. Meanwhile, the results showed that black liquor could prevent the nitrogen loss of urea.
Investigation of exhaust emissions and ammonia flow behavior in the exhaust system incorporating with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) unit is discussed. An aftertreatment system is designed to work without additional urea injection. This study is focused on obtaining optimal parameters for catalysis. Its effectiveness is considered as a function of basic parameters of exhaust gases mixture and SCR material characteristics. A 3D geometry of SCR with porous volume has been simulated using Ansys Fluent. Moreover, a 1D model of ammonia dual-fuel CI engine has been obtained. Results were focused on obtaining local temperature, velocity, and exhaust gases composition to predict optimal probes placement, pipes insulation parameters, and characteristic dimensions.
Livestock production is the basis of global food production and it is a serious threat to the environment. Significant environmental pollutants are odors and ammonia (NH3) emitted from livestock buildings. The aim of the study was to determine the concentration and emission factors of ammonia and odors, in the summer season, from a deep-litter fattening house. The research was carried out during summer in a mechanically ventilated fattening piggery located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. Ammonia concentrations were measured using photoacoustic spectrometer Multi Gas Monitor Innova 1312, and odor concentrations were determined by dynamic olfactometry according to EN 13725:2003 using a TO 8 olfactometer. The NH3 emission factors from the studied piggery, in summer, ranged from 8.53 to 21.71 g·day-1·pig-1, (mean value 12.54±4.89 g·days-1·pig-1). Factors related to kg of body mass were from 0.11 to 0.23 g·day-1·kg b.m.-1 (mean value 0.17±0.06 g·day-1·kg b.m.-1). Odor concentrations in the studied piggery were from 755 to 11775 ouE·m-3 and they were diversified (coefficient of variation 43.8%). The mean value of the momentary odor emission factors was 179.5±78.7 ouE·s-1·pig-1. Factor related to kg of body mass was 2.27±1.71 ouE·s-1·kg b.m.-1. In Poland and many other countries, the litter systems of pigs housing are still very popular. Therefore, there is a need to monitor the pollutant emissions from such buildings to identify the factors influencing the amount of this emission. Another important issue is to verify whether the reduction techniques, giving a measurable effect in laboratory research, bring the same reduction effect in production uildings.

Badania były prowadzone w sezonie letnim, w mechanicznie wentylowanej tuczarni zlokalizowanej w województwie wielkopolskim.

The article presents a comparison of installations producing alternative fuels (methanol and ammonia). The authors propose to modernize both systems in order to increase their efficiency by replacing heat exchangers with Organic Rankine Cycle modules, in which electricity will be produced. Methanol and ammonia are alternative fuel, because they are produced on the basis of renewable hydrogen, created thanks to the use of additional energy from renewable energy sources. For this production process were used: a) carbon dioxide captured near a power plant that burns conventional fuels (CCS technology); b) nitrogen, which is a waste factor from an installation whose task is to separate air to obtain pure oxygen (ASU installation). Methanol is synthesized in the reactor at a temperature of 210°C and a pressure of 7,8 MPa. Ammonia is formed at a temperature of 350°C and a pressure of 22.5 MPa in the reactor. Fuels produced thanks to renewable energy will increase the chance of achieving climate neutrality by 2050 in line with the assumptions of the Paris Agreement.

Amoniak (NH3) to gaz powszechnie stosowany w różnych sektorach przemysłu, jest toksyczny i żrący, a powyżej określonego poziomu stężeń może zagrozić ludzkiemu zdrowiu i środowisku, dlatego ciągle trwają poszukiwania czułych, selektywnych i niezawodnych metod wykrywania gazów amoniakalnych. W niniejszym artykule dokonano przeglądu specyfikacji i podstawowych zasad działania czujników stosowanych w technikach wykrywania takich analitów.
The objective of this research was to produce safe water for shrimp by using zeolite as adsorbent to absorb unwanted substances (NH3 and H2S). In particular, this study also aimed to design the shrimp pond water treatment equipment, effect of flow rate on zeolite ability to absorb toxic gases (NH3 and H2S), and rate of absorption (K) and reaction (k). The adsorbent is zeolite which has adsorption properties, high surface area and pores suitable for water (3Å). Then, the concentration of ammonia, hydrogen sulfide was analyzed using Ammonia Test Kit and Hydrogen Sulphide of Hach Hydrogen Sulfide Test Kit. The materials used in this study were zeolite of Malang (East Java, Indonesia) and shrimp pond water. The best result of NH3 and H2S adsorption obtained at a flow rate of 3 L•min-1. The best adsorption constant value (K) achieved by a flow rate of 3 L•min-1. On the basis of the best value of R2, NH3 and H2S adsorption, it can be classified in the first-order kinetic model with R2 of 0.9763 and a k value of 0.0007 hours-1 with a flow rate of 6 L•min-1. From the data above, it can be calculated that the adsorbent needed in the adsorption of NH3 and H2S in a scale shrimp pond requires 18 kg of Malang zeolite with a column height of 3.62 m of adsorbent, a diameter of 2.07 m, and a column volume of 12.21 m3.
This paper reviews the emissions of reactive nitrogen compounds (RNCs) from modern vehicles fitted with spark ignition engines and three-way catalysts. Specific aspects of the pollutants involved - and their formation - are discussed. Cold start driving cycles are scenarios under which emissions of all four RNCs can be significant; the mechanisms behind emissions trends are explored. Experimental data obtained from two vehicles tested over two different cold start driving cycles are presented and analysed. The use of gravimetric and molar metrics are explored. Ammonia, a species which is currently not regulated for passenger cars in any automotive market, is identified as forming the majority of the RNC emissions over the entire driving cycle. While ammonia emissions are strongly linked to aftertreatment system warmup and periods of high load, significant ammonia emissions were also measured under certain hot-running, low load conditions, and even at idle. For the majority of the duration of the test procedures employed, the RNC profile was dominated by ammonia, which accounted for between 69% and 86% of measured RNCs in the exhaust gas. Emissions are compared to the available legislative precedents (i.e. emissions limits currently in force in various jurisdictions). Finally, possibilities for control of exhaust emissions of currently unregulated RNCs are briefly discussed.

In the article the author presents the conditions that must be met when operating ammonia refrigeration systems. This is a very broad issue and each of the people working with ammonia has different experiences in this area. The basic requirement is to provide such operation and maintenance of the ammonia refrigeration system to avoid any leakage or outflow.

In recent years, lower GWP alternatives for synthetic refrigerants are being sought. New (old) refrigerants must, above all, be safe for the environment, while meeting certain chemical, physical and thermodynamic criteria set by refrigeration technology. On the other hand, cooling systems are now required to be energy efficient in order to reduce the indirect effect of appliances on the enhancement of the greenhouse effect.
The study aimed to analyse detection methods of ammonia leakage by various electrical methods. Rapid detection of the escape of hazardous technical gases is extremely important in large chemical plants. The basis of the research was the use of a specialized camera, model FLIR GF306, to detect a leak of selected gases in a narrow infrared band. In laboratory conditions, the controlled emission of gaseous ammonia at various concentrations was simulated and gas detection was performed: a) using a narrow infrared thermography method, b) by a portable electrochemical detector dedicated to detecting ammonia. The turbulent flow of gas into the environment and high thermal contrast between the expanding gas and the background are the conditions for effective gas detection with a thermal imaging camera operating in a narrow infrared band.
W artykule przedstawiono porównanie energochłonności czterech instalacji produkujących amoniak i metanol, które mają stanowić paliwa alternatywne. Oba czynniki zostały wyprodukowane przy wykorzystaniu odnawialnego wodoru uzyskanego dzięki chwilowym nadwyżkom energii z Odnawialnych Źródeł Energii. The article presents the results of thermodynamic analysis in terms of the efficiency of both installations and the energy consumption of individual components. The analysis was performed for the ammonia production installations: currently operating at the parameters of 25 MPa, 450 ° C, the future installa-tion of 6 MPa, 300 ° C and the modern 12 MPa, 400 ° C installation and the methanol production installation of 7,8 MPa, 210 ° C.
The paper concerns the applicability of silver nanoparticles for reducing the emission of odours. Silver nanoparticles were successfully adsorbed on three different dolomitic limestone samples. In the next stage, wastewater from the meat industry was mixed with sorbents modified with a variable content of silver nanoparticles. After 4 days and 7 days, the concentration of ammonia was examined spectrophotometrically. Also, the degree of reduction of total odour concentration by olfactometric method was carried out. Depending on the concentration of the silver nanoparticles on the sorbents, the concentration of ammonia was 15-42 μg/cm3 for nAg content equal to 0.08%, while for sorbents containing approximately 36% of nAg the concentration of ammonia was 0.09-16 μg/cm3. A leaching test of nanosilver from sorbents confirmed that the particles were bound with the sorbents by strong bonds. The percentage of eluted silver increased from 0.67% to 11%, with increased initial concentrations of nAg on the sorbents from 0.18% to 0.37%.
This manuscript addresses the treatment of explosives-impacted mining wastewaters (EIMWW) using ion-exchange to remove elevated levels of ammonia. Repeated batch loading-regeneration cycles were conducted for two commercially available zeolite media used in the treatment of ammonia-laden EIMWW to establish the effects of competing ions and regeneration solution composition. The Northern Ontario EIMWW tested contained 3.87 meq/L total ammonia (TA) as well as 2.85 mg/L K+ and 3.9 meq/L Ca2+. The media studied were a natural clinoptilolite and a modified clinoptilolite (SIR-600). Five regenerant solutions with different NaCl and KCl concentrations were evaluated using batch tests. The presence of potassium in the regenerant was found to hinder the TA exchange capacity of both zeolites. The SIR-600 and the natural clinoptilolite used in conjunction with the 10% NaCl solution featured the best TA exchange capacities, 0.46 ± 0.02 meq TA/g and 0.36 ± 0.05 meq TA/g, respectively. The batch tests showed that both media had a slight preference for K+ over TA. The continuous flow column tests performed using SIR-600 media greatly accentuated the selectivity of K+ over TA. In reaching the same 0.55 meq TA/L breakthrough level, the same modified zeolite column was able to treat five times more volume of a synthetic TA solution than EIMWW.
