The nature of urban atmospheres has changed greatly over in recent the years, which poses a threat to the high rate of industrialization in the world. The primary well known air pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and smoke, total yearon-year decreased in the 20th century. This improvement in air quality was initially felt in cities in Western Europe and North America [4]. This does not mean that we are free from concerns about environmental threats to the state of the urban fabric. It may be at risk of degradation due to greenhouse emissions, drastic climate changes and biological development. The interaction between air pollutants and buildings in urban environment is also influenced by the presence of vegetation as well as microenvironmental conditions. For example, a large number of high-rise buildings on both sides of the road, can cause a canyon effect that makes the air polluting device recirculate. This combined with the prolongation of the exposure time of the building on polluting device, result in extensive damage of the building [1]. However, a relatively new phenomenon when it comes to air pollution is the dominance of oxidants such as ozone or the presence of soot from diesel engines, which in turn may pose previously unknown threats [4]. Common air pollutants on materials include sulfur dioxide, ozone, chlorides, nitrogen dioxide, nitrates and carbon dioxide. Additional, depending on the location of the system and nearby sources, multiple output components (VOCs) may also include building controls. There are many reasons for the degradation of buildings, with the main cause of air pollution being acid rain. The main pollutants behind acid rain are sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. These two are emitted when burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil (rapid industrialization of uses for these emissions).

The analysis of time changes and relations between meteorological parameters (temperature, precipitation, cloudy, wind speed) and air pollution (nitrogen oxides, tropospheric ozone, particulate matter PM10 and PM 2.5) in Poznań in 2012-2022. With the aid of ARIMA model the prediction of air pollution level until 2025 has also been performed. The time changes and relations between meteorological parameters and air pollution in 2012-2022 in Poznań have been found. Special attention has been paid to the seasonality of elevated air pollutants concentrations and some tendencies in time periods. The seasonality is mainly related to the seasons of the year and air pollution sources dominant for certain seasons (e.g. transportation, house heating systems). While the longer time period tendencies are in relation in such activities as limitation resulted from COVID-19 pandemic situation and activities conducted by local governments and individual household to reduce air pollution emissions. This indicates the purposefulness of efforts made by society and local governments to reduce air pollution emissions in our immediate surroundings.
Reduction of ecological risks of shipping is a challenging task that requires methods of legislative and regulatory control, organizational measures, and technical and technological support. Furthermore, the matter concerns not only the reduction of possible risks but also the level of existing impact on the marine environment because of exhaust gas emissions by ships, discharge of waste and ballast water, as well as control of ecological consequences of accidents. The purpose of this study is to analyse possible sources of environmental impact during ship operation cycles, identify significant risks, review existing potentials to reduce the risk of ship accidents and their environmental consequences, and develop solutions to existing problems. This study offers results, which can serve as the initial basis for the formation of comprehensive measures on the reduction of environmental risks, and consequences of possible accidents for the environment caused by ships and international shipping.
Polska należy do państw o najbardziej zanieczyszczonym powietrzu w Europie. Do analizy wyników i we wnioskowaniu zastosowano metody i narzędzia statystyki matematycznej (test niezależności chi kwadrat oraz współczynniki: V Cramera, C Pearsona i φ Yule’a).

Poland is one of the countries with the most polluted air in Europe. It is among the leading European countries due to the levels of PM10 and PM2.5 particulate matters concentrations achieved, and it records the highest average annual concentrations of the carcinogenic and mutagem'c benzo(a)pyrene in the European Union. The main cause of poor air quality is the burning of coal and wood in small heating installations. To solve this problem, it is necessary to widely use low- and zero-emission energy sources, including renewable energy sources. A high level of knowledge and ecological awareness as well as social acceptance for remedial actions, also among young people, are also very important. Therefore, in March 2023, a survey was conducted in Bydgoszcz, which is also struggling with the problem of poor air quality (the city has about 20,000 solid fuel heat sources, data from 23.02.2023). Its aim was to check the level of knowledge and ecological awareness of young people in the field of air pollution, including legal tools to fight smog - local anti-smog resolutions. The direct impulse to conduct this research was the upcoming date of introduction of the key provisions of the anti-smog resolution in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, i.e. the ban on the use of heating installations below the third class in which solid fuels are burned as of 01.01.2024. Methods and tools of mathematical statistics were used to analyze the results and draw conclusions (the chi-square test of independence and the following coefficients: Cramer's V, Pearson's C and Yule's (p).

Data from 2 measurement stations located in urban and industrialized areas were analyzed. The focus was on specific air pollutants, such as PM10, NO₂, SO₂, C₆H₆, benzo(a)pyrene and heavy metals (Pb, As, Ni, Cd). Concn. charts for substances confirmed the existence of air pollution problems, particularly during the winter season which clearly indicated a relationship between the level of pollution and the heating season.
This article presents the topic of atmospheric pollution. The authors have presented the most important national air-quality regulations. They have identified measurement stations in Kraków (Poland), collected data from them and conducted their analysis. The aim of the article is to present the research results on developing a statistical model for estimating air pollution in Kraków depending on the changing weather conditions during the year. The authors used the mathematical modelling method to prepare the air-pollution model. The article presents collected data showing the situation prior to the introduction of a number of environmental regulations in the city of Kraków. The paper is based on meteorological data in the form of daily average values of air temperature, wind speed, air humidity, pressure and precipitation. Emission data included the average daily concentrations of the selected air pollutants, including sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), nitrogen oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O3) and particulate matter PM10 and PM2.5. The results of the study indicate that the three most significant factors influencing the level of air pollution (appearing as explanatory changes in the models for each of the pollutants listed) are the value of ambient air temperature (a destimulant, except for ozone), wind speed (a destimulant) and the concentration of each pollutant on the previous day (a stimulant). The article concludes with a summary and conclusions.

W artykule przedstawiono tematykę zanieczyszczenia powietrza atmosferycznego. Do opracowania modelu zanieczyszczenia powietrza autorzy wykorzystali metodę modelowania matematycznego.
Frequent exceedances of permissible PM10 concentrations occur mainly during the so-called heating season and are readily noticed not only by environmental protection specialists but also by residents; they are also wildly discussed in the mass media. If the state of elevated concentrations persists for at least several hours, it is generally referred to as smog. The du-ration of smog can range from several hours to several days, causing an increase in morbidity and in the number of deaths. The paper presents the air-sanitary situation in Krościenko nad Dunajcem using the air quality indicator as the concentration of particulate matter PM10. Krościenko is a Carpathian town located in the valley of the Dunajec river. Such a topo-climatic location is conducive to the occurrence of frequent temperature inversions, stagnant cold air and poor ventilation, which results in the concentration of local emissions mainly from domestic boilers. The research period covered the years 2018-2022 of continuous daily D24 PM10 measure-ments. Preliminary comparisons of annual concentrations with selected cities located in moun-tainous and foothill areas of southern Poland indicated the aerosanitary problem of Krościenko. In all analyzed years, the daily norms were exceeded from 46 days in 2022 to 91 days in 2018. This situation occurs as a result of the low-stack emission during the heating period and the poor topoclimatic conditions in Krościenko. However, there is a visible downward trend in con-centrations over the analyzed period, which may have resulted from the gradual reduction of the use of fossil fuels.
Aiming to create more sustainable cities it is necessary to understand and manage different ecological factors which influence human health. One of such factors is black carbon (BC) in atmosphere, which currently is not commonly monitored by environmental monitoring systems. The aim of this research was to estimate by indirect approach the relation between eBC (equivalent of black carbon) concentration and other air pollutants in order to define approximate level of eBC in more efficient approach. The study was conducted in Wrocław (Poland) in October 2021, and combined data on eBC concentration (measured by microaethalometer), air quality (from national environmental monitoring system) and traffic (from municipal traffic management system). Quantile regression was used to assess the relationship between the concentrations of pollutants. The obtained results show that for rise 1 mg∙m-3 of carbon monoxide, eBC concentration rise between 4.2 and 8.0 μg∙m-3, depending on the period of a day. Precision of eBC concentration evaluation is influenced by sun light which results in higher precision of defining a scaling factor for night hours. Outcomes of this study constitute an added value to understanding of interconnections between different factors describing environmental conditions in cities and might be helpful for more effective environmental assessment of human habitats.
Celem badań była ocena jakości mikrobiologicznej powietrza trzech klatek schodowych w blokach mieszkalnych wielorodzinnych. The aim of the study was to assess the microbiological air quality in three staircases of multifamily residential buildings. The study examined influence of season and air temperature on the abundance and biodiversity of microorganisms in the bioaerosol of stairwells. All studies were conducted using an impact method with the MAS-100 aerosol sampler (Merck). Concentrations of actinomycetes and staphylococci in both atmospheric air and selected stairwells exceeded norms. Season and air temperature have an impact on microbial concentrations in the air. The age of the building, light availability and ventilation conditions were also identified as potential factors influencing the concentration of specific microbial groups in the bioaerosol.
Air pollution (especially near industrial enterprises that are located mainly in densely populated regions) is one of the most significant problems of modern ecology. The purpose of this research is to study nitrogen dioxide air pollution over Ukraine, which has a negative impact on human health. As part of the research over the territory of Ukraine, the real planar distribution of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) as well as its local emissions (which make the main contribution to this distribution) were revealed using the materials of the remote sensing of the Earth from the AURA satellite. The results were calculated for the multi-year period of 2005 through 2021 and separately for 2022, which characterized the full-scale war in Ukraine and which made it possible to identify priority polluters; namely, industrial enterprises (thermal power plants, heavy metallurgy enterprises, etc.). For 17 years, the average value of NO2 was 160.78 · 102 molecules/mm2; in 2022, its concentration decreased to 126.93·109 molecules/mm2. The war manifested itself due to the shutdown of industrial enterprises, which were (and remain) priority polluters in Ukraine (particularly in large cities).
W pracy przedstawiono sieć czujnikową do pomiarów zanieczyszczeń powietrza na terenie kampusu Politechniki Wrocławskiej. Opisano urządzenia czujnikowe do pomiarów frakcji pyłu PM2.5, wykorzystujące niskobudżetowe czujniki optyczne PMS A003 firmy Plantower.

The article provides the general provisions and features of the application of the zonal-indicative methodology for assessing the impact on the state of the atmospheric air of enterprises from local industrial complexes and its practical approbation. A unified approach to determining the zones of negative influence of industrial objects and their groups on the state of atmospheric air is proposed. Analytical dependencies have been established to determine the physical and linear dimensions of the influence zones. The peculiarities of the method of determining “marker” substances for the conditions of formation of the level of atmospheric pollution due to the activity of local industrial complexes are characterized. An algorithm for implementing the method is proposed, which includes procedures for selecting marker substances of the first order (impact), second order (basic), and third order (specific). Significant parameters for the selection procedure of marker substances and the conditions for differentiating emission sources are substantiated, which allows to ensure the effectiveness of the practical implementation of the method. Approbation of the proposed zonal-indicative methodology was carried out on the example of the Kryukiv Carriage Plant, which is part of the local industrial hub in the southern part of Kremenchuk. The calculation of zones of probable influence and other parameters necessary for the application of the indicative evaluation method was carried out. The inverse problem “technological process – marker substance” has been solved. Measurement points of the maximum one-time surface concentrations of pollutants have been determined. Analytical processing of the results of calculation studies and laboratory (including field) observations was carried out. The obtained calculated values of surface concentrations made it possible to determine the substantiated maximum possible contribution of the object to the formation of the general level of atmospheric air pollution in the southern microdistricts of Kremenchuk. In particular, it was established that the level of acceptability of the possible negative impact should be determined based on the results of calculations of the dispersion of marker pollutants in atmospheric air without taking into account background concentrations.

Practically, the strategic guideline for a transformation of transport sector of the Ukraine’s economy is the reduction of the transport carbon footprint. The decarbonisation policy of the Ukrainian transport sector is characterised in the present paper. Moreover, inefficiency of the current policy is proved. The authors created the mathematical model of structural improvement in road transportations by redistribution of transportations volumes between the motor transport and the railway. Guided by the scenario approach, the three most probable scenarios for traffic optimisation are developed, such as pessimistic, basic, and optimistic. The carbon reduction percentage is computed in each of these scenarios. In addition, the priority vectors of the policy of the structural optimisation of the road transport by redistribution of traffic volumes between the motor transport and the railway are determined.

Air pollution is a key issue for proper functioning of our community, as well as for the most of economy branches of the country. This is related to their practically unlimited possibility of spatial distribution and effects on environment, materials and human health. Social awareness concerning the air quality and its effect to human and environment has been increasing recently. However, there is a continuous increase of major air pollutants exceeding the limited values and causing human deaths. The level of pollution is characterized the fluctuations, both daily and annual. This is caused by elevated emission from various sources in different seasons of the year. The dominating air pollution during the winter season are related to the individual household warming systems, while during the summer season the most common air pollution source is transport. Both types of air pollution sources create the problem in their limiting and these are the most important air pollution sources to fight with in the near future. The season-related are also some extreme phenomena - winter and summer smog, which are occurring during the elevated emission of particular air pollutants and favorable meteorological conditions. The most common is winter smog, due to its higher frequency and effect on decreasing air transparency. While, the summer smog is most common in huge agglomeration with high traffic. Both phenomena are negative due to effect on human health and ecosystem status within urban and suburban areas.

Higher concentrations of many air pollutants, both in the outdoor and indoor environments, are recorded in many countries and contribute, among the others, to increased incidence of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and even increased mortality caused by them directly as well as indirectly. In addition, deposition of air pollutants on natural and artificial surfaces contributes to damage to the natural environment, as well as to man-made materials. This is also valid for ventilation systems, which proper functioning might be also affected on indoor air quality and human health. Elevated air pollution concentrations might also cause economic losses. In the case of health impacts, they are primarily related to the cost of absence from work, medical costs, or premature death. Reduced crop yields or tree biomass growth can be another factor contributing to economic losses in addition to pests, pathogens or weather extremes. The damage of construction materials, ventilation system and other materials might also cause an increase in the cost of their maintenance.
W ostatnim okresie, szczególnie w tzw. „dobie pandemii” coraz większą wagę zaczęto przywiązywać do stanu jakości powietrza jakim oddychamy.

Recently, especially in the so-called “pandemic era”, more and more attention has been paid to the quality of the air we breathe. This is a consequence of the fact that air pollution affects both directly and indirectly our health and well-being. At the same time, the quality of outdoor air depends on many global and local factors, including primarily related to the type of fuels burned and the construction of heating devices, meteorological conditions, terrain, type of buildings and traffic intensity. On the other hand, indoor air occurring in residential, industrial or public buildings depends on both the heating and ventilation systems used, as well as the number of people staying in a given room and the quality of outdoor air (because it has the ability to penetrate into the interior through diffusers, ventilation ducts and window and door joinery). At the same time, indoor air can be cleaned of various types of contaminants, such as dust pollen and other allergens, and humidified to the expected humidity level. And this is particularly important because if the indoor air is not subjected to any treatment, it may contain dust and even spores of mold, fungi, bacteria, viruses or dangerous dusts (PM1, PM2.5 and PM10). As a result, these pollutants can contribute to malaise, cause headaches, burning eyes, problems with concentration and sleep, and may be responsible for chronic fatigue, as well as lead to more serious diseases, such as respiratory diseases, or in the case of PM1 and PM2.5 dust responsible for the formation of various cancers. Therefore, in order to limit their impact on the human body and increase the level of comfort of users/residents, it is necessary to ensure the cleanliness and quality of indoor air. If the building/room does not have mechanical ventilation, an alternative may be air purifiers, which together with various types of ionizers are becoming more and more “fashionable” every year. Therefore, as part of the pilot studies, it was decided to carry out a comparison of air quality in two residential buildings with gravity ventilation in order to assess the impact/effectiveness of an exemplary air purifier on the air quality inside the tested rooms.

The process of making hard alcohol is an industry with its complex nature of activities involving various plant machineries, raw materials, products, operations, intermediates and environmental discharge has a number of associated hazards. Manufacturing alcohol is associated with dangerous fumes and other harmful factors. To protect employees distillery enterprises must take a proactive approach to identify and mitigate the unique exposures that affect their operations. Air quality is one of the key factors directly affecting the health of every human being (the scale of the impact depends both on the age of person, his health, place of residence/work, location of potential industrial and individual pollution sources, meteorological conditions, or socioeconomic conditions). As a result, pollution of the external air has been classified by the international organizations as factors responsible for about 12% of all deaths in the world (data from 2019). Effective elimination and reduction of harmful factors present in the air, such as: vapors and gases of chemical compounds, dusts, aerosols, microbiological agents and physical factors, is possible after the simultaneous assessment of their origin as well as their quantitative and qualitative content. For this reason, the existing threats resulting from the alcohol production process and selected methods used to measure and analyze the quality of outdoor air are discussed in this study.
Road dust should be considered as a secondary source of contamination in the environment, especially when re-suspended. In our study road dust samples were collected from 8 high-capacity urban roads in two districts of Kraków (Krowodrza and Nowa Huta). Total concentration of toxic elements, such as Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Zn, Co, Pb, Ni, Ba and Se were determined using ICP–MS ELAN 6100 Perkin Elmer. A fractionation study were performed using VI step sequential extraction, according to the modified method provided by Salomons and Fӧrstner. Appropriate quality control was ensured by using reagent blanks and analysing certified reference material BCR 723 and SRM 1848a. Concentration of metals in the road dust varied as follows [mg/kg]: Cd 1.02–1.78, Cr 34.4–90.3, Cu 65–224, Mn 232–760, Zn 261–365, Co 4.32–6.46, Pb 85.6–132, Ni 32.2–43.9, Ba 98.9–104 and Se 78.3–132. Degree of contamination of road dust from Nowa Huta was very high (Cdeg 54) and considerable for road dust from Krowodrza (Cdeg 25). Results revealed that road dust samples were heavily contaminated with Cd, Cu, Zn, Mn, Co, Pb, Ni, Ba and Se, in amounts exceeding multiple times geochemical background values. The chemical speciation study using VI step sequential extraction, followed by assessing risk assessment code (RAC) revealed that elements in road dust are mostly bound with mobile and easy bioavailable fractions such as carbonates and exchangeable cations, with the exception for Cr and Cu being mostly associated and fixed with residual and organic matter fraction.

Do badań pobrany został pył drogowy z 8 odcinków dróg miejskich o dużej kongestii w dwóch dzielnicach Krakowa (Krowodrza i Nowa Huta). Stężenie metali ciężkich, takich jak Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Zn, Co, Pb, Ni, Ba i Se oznaczano metodą ICP–MS (ELAN 6100 Perkin Elmer). Frakcjonowanie przeprowadzono z zastosowaniem VI stopniowej ekstrakcji sekwencyjnej. Badania wykazały silnie zanieczyszczony Cd, Cu, Zn, Mn, Co, Pb, Ni, Ba i Se w ilościach przekraczających wielokrotnie wartości poziomów tła geochemicznego. Stężenia metali w pyle drogowym kształtowały się następująco [mg/kg]: Cd 1,02–1,78, Cr 34,4–90,3, Cu 65-224, Mn 232–760, Zn 261–365, Co 4,32–6,46, Pb 85,6–132, Ni 32,2–43,9, Ba 98,9–104 i Se 78,3–132.
