Agile Project Management is a topic that has become popular both in business and academia, since the publication of the Agile Manifesto - a historic landmark in this subject. In the next 20 years, there was a relevant scientific production that must be analyzed to provoke reflection about the knowledge built up in this period. In this sense, this study aims to analyze the relevant scientific literature on Agile Project Management through a systematic review and a bibliometric analysis of articles published in scientific journals with Digital Object Identifier, in English, from the Web of Science and Scopus databases, from 2001 to 2021. The research results enable us to gain insights into the characteristics of this knowledge domain, regarding its volume and evolutionary trend, main contributors (i.e. scientific journals, authors, and their affiliations), main studies, methods used, and its central thematic axes.

The outcome of this work was the discovery that the organizational culture in each of the concepts was very similar, yet, the structure supporting self-organizing teams may vary in effect, starting from the project, to the whole organization. Still, the management and processes appeared to be very similar in the teal organization, holacracy and sociocracy. Moreover, agile project management was more similar to traditional organizations. The paper emphasizes the need for further research, in particular, in companies which have adopted the presented concepts.

W artykule przedstawiono rolę Scrum Mastera jako służebnego przywódcy wirtualnych zespołów projektowych realizujących projekty informatyczne. Omówiono podstawy metodyki Scrum, w tym w szczególności rolę Scrum Mastera w Zespole Scrumowym. Zaprezentowano definicję i koncepcje przywództwa służebnego.

The aim of this paper is to present the quantitative perspective of the agile transformation processes in IT organisations. The phenomenon of agile transformation becomes a complex challenge for an IT organisation since it has not been analysed in detail so far. There is no research on the readiness of IT organisations to realise agile transformation processes. Such processes also prove to have uncontrolled character. Therefore, to minimise the risk of failure referring to the realisation of transformation processes, it is necessary to monitor them. It is also necessary to identify and analyse such processes to ensure their continuous character.

The article presents project management development trends in the light of foreign and national research and draws attention to importance of the organization’s project maturity if only for repeatable achievement of the same level of success in consecutive projects. Furthermore, case studies of the use of agile management in big corporations are presented along with the need to apply a more conscious – i.e. connected with strategy – understanding of the role of project management in organizations.

Agile methods for project management are often treated as methods for mitigating risk. However, there is disagreement as to whether explicit methods of risk management should be used in projects which are executed according to Agile methodology or is the implicit risk management built into Agile methodologies sufficient. To contribute to the discussion, an attempt has been made to identify risks that are either caused by the introduction of an Agile methodology to a project or become more significant when such methodology is in use. If such risks exist, this would be evidence that explicit risk management is required, even in the case of Agile methodologies. The results of this research may be useful for any organization that is in the process of selecting a methodology for project management and is considering Agile methodologies.
