Supply chain management literature is rich in pointing to the benefits generated by collaborative supply chain arrangements. While there is consensus that supply chain integration can improve supply chain performance, research studying relational factors in long-term collaborative buyer-supplier relationships is still scarce. Focusing on distributor-manufacturer relationships that use VMI, and based on the theory of psychological contracts, this paper investigates the relationship between the length of a VMI relationship and the supply chain trust in that relationship using survey data. While our findings confirm that average distributor trust in the manufacturer is quite high, we also shed light on a dark side of long-term VMI relationships by providing evidence that they are associated with lower levels of distributor trust in the manufacturer (relative to short-term relationships). Our findings demonstrate that in order to maintain the initially high trust levels in VMI relationships, good inventory performance may not be sufficient.

W artykule opisano specyfikę dostaw LPG do sieci stacji autogazu. Następnie zaprezentowano projekt systemu wspomagania decyzji dostaw LPG, jaki został opracowany dla wybranego przedsiębiorstwa transportu ADR. Przedstawiono pokrótce prezentację interaktywnego systemu komputerowego (realizacji SWD) opracowanego i wdrożonego w prezentowanym przedsiębiorstwie. Pracę kończy wskazanie korzyści z zastosowania systemowego podejścia do planowania oraz określenie kierunków dalszych prac.

In this paper, supply system of LPG to fuel station is presented as a specific example of vendor managed inventory replenishment concept. A single hauler of LPG is considered, which operates within the network of domestic depots and performs deliveries to hundreds of final customers being responsible for full accessibility for all supported LPG stations. The carrier is responsible for the entire LPG supply planning process (volume as well as scheduling of deliveries), information process, completed deliveries and any problems arising during execution. In the article the LPG supply process and the planning system which has been developed are presented with a brief presentation of an interactive computer system (DSS implementation) developed and implemented in the reporting enterprise. The work ends with an indication of the benefits of using a system approach to planning and determination of the directions for further research.

Constantly, increasing customer requirements and changing market conditions require companies to collaborate with supply chain partners. Therefore, supply chain concepts like Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) are now applied in various industries. Although VMI has become well-known in recent years, only a few companies plan, optimize, coordinate and implement processes with partners of the supply chain. Especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs) do not coordinate business processes with their suppliers, because it is very difficult for SMEs to estimate the effects of the implementation of VMI on their business processes. This paper focuses on a framework for integrating such a supply chain concept into the business processes on the demand side. To support the VMI implementation a process reference model with best practice processes is needed. Therefore, an extended process reference model LogWIN-P_VMI was developed, which helps companies to estimate the effects of VMI on their business processes.
