Content available Proposal of the Assembly Line Structure Modification
EN
This paper describes the application of computer simulation for the purpose of analysis of an assembly line and the subsequent proposal of changes to increase productivity. Tecnomatix Plant Simulation software was used for modeling, simulations, and analyses. Based on simulations and analyses of the original state, the bottlenecks of the line were identified, and improvement measures were proposed. The simulation model was adjusted, and the new state of the line was simulated. Based on the new simulation, it was proven that the proposed improvement would help in increasing the productivity of the assembly line. Computer simulation, in addition to verifying the production process itself, enables the optimal setting of the assembly line without interfering with the production itself.

Scalability is a key feature of reconfigurable manufacturing systems (RMS). It enables fast and cost-effective adaptation of their structure to sudden changes in product demand. In principle, it allows to adjust a system's production capacity to match the existing orders. However, scalability can also act as a "safety buffer" to ensure a required minimum level of productivity, even when there is a decline in the reliability of the machines that are part of the machine tool subsystem of a manufacturing system. In this article, we analysed selected functional structures of an RMS under design to see whether they could be expanded should the reliability of machine tools decrease making it impossible to achieve a defined level of productivity. We also investigated the impact of the expansion of the system on its reliability. To identify bottlenecks in the manufacturing process, we ran computer simulations in which the course of the manufacturing process was modelled and simulated for 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-stage RMS structures using Tecnomatix Plant Simulation software.

The paper describes the application of a simulation environment (Tecnomatix Plant Simulation) for solving a real manufacturing problem. The studied case consisted in rebalancing the production line with a specified number of operators on the line. The first stage of the study involved determination of the production cycle and key performance indicators. The production system was then divided into work cells. After that, proposed design assump-tions were verified via a simulation model.

The problem of bottlenecks is a key issue in optimising and increasing the efficiency of manufacturing processes. Detecting and analysing bottlenecks is one of the basic constraints to the contemporary production enterprises. The enterprises should not ignore problems that significantly influence the efficiency of the processes. People responsible for the proper course of production try to devise methods to eliminate bottlenecks and the waiting time at the production line. The possibilities of production lines are limited by the throughput of bottlenecks that disturb the smoothness of the processes. The presented results of the experimental research show the possibilities of a computer simulation as a method for analysing problems connected with limiting the production capacity. A computer-assisted simulation allows for studying issues of various complexities that could be too work-consuming or impossible while using classic analytical methods. The article presents the results of the computer model analysis that involved the functioning of machinery within a chosen technological line of an enterprise from a sanitary sector. The major objective of the paper is to identify the possibility of applying selected simulation tool while analysing production bottlenecks. An additional purpose is to illustrate the subjects of production bottlenecks and creating simulation models. The problem analysis involved the application of the software Tecnomatix Plant Simulation by Siemens. The basic methods of research used in the study were literature studies and computer simulation.
