Praca systemów elektrycznych I elektronicznych może być zakłócana przez generowane impulsy elektromagnetyczne. Takie impulsy mogą też służyć jako broń przeciw systemom militarnym w tym także pojazdom.

Operation of electrical and electronic systems can be disturbed by the influence of natural or artificially generated electromagnetic pulses (EMP). In this connection for many years people successfully developed means for generating the power EMP also in the form of weapon systems. Potential targets can be the important elements of critical infrastructure, military systems or transport vehicles, for example if necessary stopping the moving vehicle, as well as vehicles, which penetrated to vicinity of the protected object or stopping of vehicles at control posts.

Artykuł przedstawia krótką charakterystykę i możliwości wykorzystania na współczesnym polu walki energii elektromagnetycznej (EM) z różnych zakresów pasma częstotliwości. Promieniowanie elektromagnetyczne jest jedną z form energii, która w określonych warunkach gwarantuje poprawną pracę wybranych urządzeń radioelektronicznych a jednocześnie może być istotnym czynnikiem zagrażającym prawidłowemu ich funkcjonowaniu oraz obsługującemu personelowi. Broń rażenia elektromagnetycznego, zwana powszechnie jako „bomba E”, ze względu na swój charakter określana jest również jako broń masowej destrukcji (ang. Weapon of Electrical Mass Destruction) lub jako broń niezabijająca (ang. Nonlethal Weapon). Walka elektroniczna polega na rozpoznawaniu źródeł emisji elektromagnetycznych (ZE) oraz dezorganizowaniu pracy urządzeń i systemów elektronicznych przeciwnika wykorzystujących EM, w tym energię wiązkową, przy jednoczesnym zapewnieniu warunków ich efektywnego użycia przez wojska własne. Operacje elektromagnetyczne (ang. Electromagnetic Operations), to wszelka aktywność militarna w spektrum EM, a atak elektroniczny (ang. Electronic Attack) – to wykorzystanie EM do celów ofensywnych. Atak ten obejmuje wykorzystanie broni wiązkowej (ang. Directed Energy Weapons - DEW), impulsu elektromagnetycznego dużej mocy zakresu mikrofal (ang. High Power Microwave – HPM), impulsu EM oraz innych urządzeń wykorzystujących pasmo fal elektromagnetycznych.

The article presents the short characteristic and possibilities of usage the electromagnetic energy (EM) on the modern battlefield from different frequency bands. The electromagnetic radiation is one of the form energy which in the specific conditions guaranties the properly work of chosen electronic devices and also may be the significant of threatening factor for their functionality and personnel service. The electromagnetic weapons, commonly known as ”bomb E”, regard to its character is called as weapon of electrical mass destruction or non-lethal weapon. The electronic warfare depends on the reconnaissance of electromagnetic sources and work disorganizing the electronic devices and systems using the electromagnetic energy and also the directed energy and at the same time assuring the proper conditions for their usage by own troops. The electromagnetic operations are the whole military activity in the electromagnetic spectrum ad the electronic attack is using of the electromagnetic energy to defensive purposes. Tis electronics attack contains the usage of directed energy weapons, high power microwave energy, electromagnetic energy and different devices using the band of electromagnetic waves.

Scientific and research potential allows introducing cluster energetic weapon and its most technically advanced forms into the armed forces’ armament. The means to carry this kind of weapon may be combat satellites (space platforms), aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, rockets, bombs, artillery ammunition, grenades and also army mobile vehicles, vessels and submarines. Cluster weapon charges, using the electromagnetic impulse, are a selective weapon enabling to destroy or temporarily switch off electrical or electronic devices. All the more so as almost all computer and communication systems that create the basis of a state and military infrastructure are based on conductors and circuits that are sensitive to electromagnetic impulse. It destroys, damages or turns off electrical and electronic equipment on a relatively large area as compared with fragmentation bombs. Therefore cluster weapon is often treated as mass destruction weapon of electrical and electronic objects. It is expected that the importance of cluster weapon will grow.
