The modern companies, which are competing on product market, need to use innovative solutions, in order to become potential leaders. One of the modernization methods is rearrangement of organizational structure and redistribution of competence. The article describes the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Department in production plant, which is an innovative initiative in worldwide organizational management. Some aspects including AME application in plant processes are highlighted. Some advanced techniques are presented. In the article summary, perspectives for the development of AME are included.

Design for Manufacturing to metoda projektowania zorientowana na wytwarzanie, konstruowanie wyrobu, uwzględniająca znajomość technologii produkcji, koszt oraz ograniczenia wynikające ze specyfiki procesu wytwarzania. Wszystkie narzędzia CAx wspomagające prace inżyniera w zakresie wyboru metody wytwarzania, szacowania kosztu wytwarzania oraz identyfikacji potencjalnych problemów, które mogą pojawić się podczas realizacji procesów technologicznych obróbki, można zaliczyć do oprogramowania DFM. W publikacji omówiono wybrane aspekty związane z projektowaniem zorientowanym na wytwarzanie części z blachy.

Design for manufacturing is the method of design that takes into account knowledge of manufacturing technology, the cost and limitations due to the nature of the manufacturing process. CAx tools such as process selector, cost estimator or software to identify potential problems that may occur during the implementation manufacture process can be classified as DFM software. The publication describes the main aspects related to design for manufacturing of sheet metal parts.

Due to increasing competition in the manufacturing industry, the search for shorter product development and production cycles and lower cost led to the emergence of design and manufacturing integration processes. An advanced integrated design environment, such as Catia system enables the engineers to evaluate multiple constraints from manufacturing, assembly, service at the design stage. The paper considers one of the most important aspects of recent product developments called virtual development. In that process the main role is played by Digital Mock-Up which could be considered as a horizontal build up model as well as a traditional vertical approach. Application of virtual manufacturing presented in this paper was prepared in one integrated CAx environment.
