This paper carries out a revision of the occupational health and safety audit practice in Spain. The legal framework for occupational health and safety management is summarized to set the environment for the audit process. The different models of occupational health and safety audit are described and the statutory audit is introduced as a distinctive legal requirement in Spain. Starting from the experience of a professional auditing company, a general management process is proposed to carry out the whole activity. An information system is introduced to manage all the documents needed. The implementation of this system simplifies the work of the auditors and improves their efficiency.

Artykuł przedstawia ogólną procedurę audytu bezpieczeństwa i ochrony zdrowia zawodowego stosowaną w Hiszpanii. Opisana została prawna struktura systemu zarządzania bezpieczeństwem i ochrony zdrowia zawodowego. Zaprezentowane zostały różne modele audytu bezpieczeństwa, w tym ustawowy audyt będący wymogiem prawnym w Hiszpanii. Omówiono ogólny system przeprowadzania audytu na podstawie doświadczeń profesjonalnej firmy audytorskiej, a także przedstawiono system informacyjny zarządzający wszystkimi dokumentami. Wdrożenie tego systemu upraszcza pracę audytorów i zwiększa ich efektywność.

This work shows the importance of incorporating a System of Environmental Management into the mining management of the twenty-first century. An analysis of the main distinguishing features from the other industries is done in the first place. Secondly, a commentary is exposed on its present situation within the frame of the European Union and the future prospects of the sector. Lastly, we have tried to show the advantages of incorporating an Environmental Management System into the mining companies.
