This study focuses on the performance evaluation of road infrastructures in Abeokuta, the capital city of Ogun State, Nigeria. The objective of the study is to evaluate the functioning of the transport infrastructure, as perceived by its users. It further evaluates the performance of road infrastructure based on availability, conditions and operational effectiveness. The evaluation also encompasses maintenance and the socio-economic impacts of road infrastructure development in the Abeokuta metropolis. Structured questionnaires were administered to the end users of the selected roads within Abeokuta City, and engagement with selected stakeholders involved in the construction of the roads, including field observation, was adopted to gather the required data for the study. The interpretation of the results presented is mainly exploratory, since the focus of the study is on Abeokuta’s urban core, and this will help to further contextualise findings. The current state of road infrastructure in Abeokuta has been established through the findings of this study, which indicates that the road infrastructure lacks prompt maintenance intervention by the Government. This study will offer valuable insights for policymakers, urban planners, and transportation agencies. The recommendations can guide future infrastructure planning to create efficient, safe, and accessible road networks in Abeokuta and other States of the Federation.
