The opening unit is an important device in a rotor spinning unit to comb fibres and remove trash. In this paper, numerical simulation is carried out to study the flow structure in the rotor spinning channel and the trash removal process in the trash removal unit. Firstly the effect of the opening unit on the airflow field in the rotor channel is investigated by singlephase simulation. The result shows that the effective area for fibre conveyance enlarges as the absolute value of negative pressure at the outlet increases, while it decreases as the opening roller speed increases. However, the effect of the negative pressure and the opening roller speed on the length of the vortex in the axial direction is quite small. Secondly the trash separation process in the trash removal unit is simulated using the Discrete Phase Model (DPM). Suitable rotational speeds of particles of different diameters are acquired. These results could provide a valuable reference for parameter selection in the trash-removal process.

Jednostka otwierająca jest ważnym urządzeniem w przędzarce rotorowej służącym do rozczesywania włókien i usuwania odpadów. W artykule przeprowadzono symulację numeryczną mającą na celu zbadanie struktury przepływu w kanale przędzalniczym wirnika oraz procesu usuwania odpadów. Wpływ jednostki otwierającej na pole przepływu powietrza w kanale wirnika badano symulacją jednofazową. Wyniki wykazały, że efektywny obszar transportu włókien powiększa się, gdy wartość bezwzględnej wartości ujemnego ciśnienia na wylocie wzrasta, a zmniejsza się wraz ze wzrostem prędkości wału otwierającego. Jednakże wpływ podciśnienia i prędkość wału otwierającego na długość wiru w kierunku osiowym jest stosunkowo niewielka. Stwierdzono także, że proces separacji odpadów w jednostce usuwania odpadów jest symulowany przy użyciu modelu dyskretnego fazy (DPM). Otrzymuje się odpowiednie prędkości obrotowe cząstek o różnych średnicach. Wyniki te mogą stanowić cenny punkt odniesienia dla wyboru parametrów w procesie usuwania odpadów.

Content available Light Effect in Semiconductor Bridge Plasma Ignition

Heat is considered to play an important role in Semiconductor Bridge (SCB) plasma ignition. Nevertheless, in this paper a non-heat effect is reported for SCB ignition of primary explosives. An initial comparison showed that there is no reasonable correlation between the ease of plasma ignition and the 5-s explosion temperature. Meanwhile the addition of Pb3O4 was found to make lead styphnate (LS) more active to SCB plasma ignition whereas the heat decomposition of this mixture was not accelerated. In terms of the phenomena mentioned above and the response of primary explosives to SCB plasma, we propose an effect of light in SCB plasma ignition. The free radical concentration change indicates that light enhances the activity of primary explosives in SCB plasma ignition. Regarding the mixture of LS and Pb3O4, the additive itself does not make LS sensitive to the SCB plasma. However, the supplement makes LS active under light exposure. As a result, the effect of light on SCB plasma ignition was confirmed by the experiments conducted in this study. This paper provides a new understanding of SCB plasma ignition from the viewpoint of explosives, which is of importance for the design of SCBs.

This paper reports the variations of mass, porosity, and wave velocity of sandstone after high temperature heating. The range of temperature to which the sandstone specimens have been exposed is 25-850°C, in a heating furnace. It has been shown that below 300°C, porosity and wave velocity change very little. Above 300°C, there is a rapid increase in porosity, but the wave velocity decreases significantly. The results of thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) suggest that a series of changes occurred between 400 and 600°C in sandstone could be responsible for the different patterns of variation in porosity and wave velocity

Co-crystallization is proposed as an effective method to alter the physicochemical properties of energetic materials, e.g. density, sensitivity and solubility. As reported in this paper, it was found that 1-nitronaphthalene could form cocrystals with TNT, picric acid and MHN in a 1:1 molecular ratio. The sensitivity and thermal stability of the 1-nitronaphthalene co-crystals was greatly improved compared with that of pure TNT, picric acid and MHN. In addition, the melting points of TNT, picric acid and MHN were lowered through co-crystallization with 1-nitronaphthalene. The electrostatic potential surface of 1-nitronaphthalene, calculated by the DFT method, showed that the electron-rich 1-nitronaphthalene has a tendency to be a proton donor and to co-crystallize with other energetic materials. The structures of the co-crystals of 1-nitronaphthalene with TNT and picric acid were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction (SXRD). The 1-nitronaphthalene/MHN co-crystal was studied by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and FTIR.

Content available remote Permeability Evolution and Rock Brittle Failure

This paper reports an experimental study of the evolution of permeability during rock brittle failure and a theoretical analysis of rock critical stress level. It is assumed that the rock is a strain-softening medium whose strength can be described by Weibull’s distribution. Based on the two-dimensional renormalization group theory, it is found that the stress level λ c (the ratio of the stress at the critical point to the peak stress) depends mainly on the homogeneity index or shape parameter m in the Weibull’s distribution for the rock. Experimental results show that the evolution of permeability is closely related to rock deformation stages: the permeability has a rapid increase with the growth of cracks and their surface areas (i.e., onset of fracture coalescence point), and reaches the maximum at rock failure. Both the experimental and analytical results show that this point of rapid increase in permeability on the permeabilitypressure curve corresponds to the critical point on the stress-strain curve; for rock compression, the stress at this point is approximately 80% of the peak strength. Thus, monitoring the evolution of permeability may provide a new means of identifying the critical point of rock brittle fracture.

Natural cellulose fibres from Broussonetia papyrifera (L.) Vent. (BP) bast were systematically investigated in this paper. To begin with, BP fibres were successively extracted from BP bast by four different degumming methods, among which the microwave-assisted method exhibited high efficiency. It was found that non-cellulose substances were sufficiently removed or reduced after the degumming process, but the cellulose I structure had not changed from bast to fibres based on the XRD and FTIR results. Meanwhile the BP fibres exhibited high crystallinity (75 ~ 77%), high breaking strength (2.19 ~ 2.39 cN/dtex) and a remarkable moisture region (6.3 ~ 8.7%), but low breaking elongation (1.0 ~ 2.1%). All those results indicated that the BP fibres had properties resembling those of traditional natural cellulose fibres (e.g. cotton and flax); therefore they could be viewed as a promising alternative source for natural cellulose bundle fibres.

Artykuł poświecono systematycznym badaniom naturalnych włókien celulozowych z Broussonetia Papyrifera (BP). Włókna ekstrahowano z włókien łykowych BP poprzez 4 rożne metody odpreparowania pomiędzy z których metoda za pomocą zastosowania ultradźwięków pozwoliła na uzyskanie wysokiej wydajności. Stwierdzono, że nie celulozowe substancje były dostatecznie usunięte lub zredukowane po procesie odpreparowania. Dzięki badaniom XRD i FITR można było wykazać, że struktura celulozy (I) nie zmieniła się pomiędzy włóknami łykowymi i otrzymanymi z nich wyrobami. dalsze badania wykazały źe włókna BP maja wysoką krystaliczność (75 - 77%), wysoką wytrzymałość(2.19 - 2.39 cN/dtex) i znaczną pochłanialność wilgoci (6.3 - 8.7%) natomiast małe wydłużenie przy zerwaniu (1.0 - 2.1%). Wszystkie te wyniki wskazują,że włókna BP posiadają właściwości przypominające właściwości tradycyjnych, naturalnych włókien celulozowych (np. bawełny i lnu). Dlatego też badane włok-na można uważać jako alternatywne źródło naturalnych włókien celulozowych.

Content available remote Grid computing in Peking University

Grid computing enables the massive computer resource sharing, so that many applications (e.g. experimental high energy physics (HEP) and biology researches, etc.) can be greatly benefited from this new technology to proceed to the level which was unthinkable or unreachable before. Peking University is one of 10 partners in the EUChinaGRID project funded by European Commission. In this paper, the BEIJING-PKU site (based on the middleware gLite of European grid project EGEE) in the EUChinaGRID infrastructure is described. Some result of grid application in Peking University and our future plans (on HEP and biology applications as well as on the grid technology development itself) are outlined.

W artykule przedstawiono resultaty natryskiwania powłok na bazie faz metalicznych z układów Fe-Al oraz Ni-Al. Proces natryskiwania prowadzono przy uzyciu nowoczesnego energooszczędnego systemu plazmowego High Efficiency Hypersonic Plasma Spraying. Wykonano próby natryskiwania powłok faz miedzymetalicznych NiAl, FeAl oraz proszku kompozytowego NiAl+Cr+Al(2)O3. Przeprowadzono analizę chemiczną natryskanych powłok, wykonano rozkłady twardości w powłokach, w kierunku poprzecznym do powierzchni.

The paper presents the results of the investigation of energy-saving High Efficiency Hypersonic Plasma Spraying on intermetal coatings. Three types of intermetallic coatings (NiAl, FeAl, NiAl+Cr+Al(2)O3) have been produced in frame of the research. The deposited coatings have been examined by the surface chemical analysis and coating hardnes profiles have been measured across the thickness as well as the coating microstructure have been described. The quality of obtained coatings is comparable to the coatings that are produced by the classical plasma spraying method.

Adiabatic (vertical) ionization potential (IP) and valence electron affinity (EA) of gaseous alfa-alanine have been determined by density functional theory (B3LYP), ab initio Hartree-Fock (HF) calculations and ab initio third order algebraic diagrammatic construction [ADC(3)] Green function method with the 6-311++G** and 6-311G** basis sets, respectively. Eighteen possible conformers of alfa-alanine and its charged states have been optimized, employing density functional theory (B3LYP) with 6-311++G** and 6-311G** basis sets, respectively. In the gas phase, the IPs of all alfa-alanine calculated have positive values and all the EAs are negative, except for VEA2 (+0.555 eV) of 6A, which indicates that all anions except for 6A- are unstable with respect to electron autodetachment vertically and adiabatically. All kinds of chemical quantities, associated with the IP and EA, such as electronegativity, chemical potential, chemical hardness, and chemical softness, have also been determined. Finally, we also report the infrared spectrum frequencies and vibrational modes for neutral states of alfa-alanine 1A, 2A, 3A, 5A and their optimized cationic and anionic states in seven highest frequency regions, and analyzed the relationship between the vibrational frequencies when receiving or donating an electron.
