The economic importance of rapeseed has increased as a result of processing of rapeseed oil into liquid biofuel in a reaction with alcohol in the presence of a catalyst. The amount of the byproducts of the esterification process, including the glycerin fraction, will therefore grow. The quality of the glycerin fraction depends on the quality of the rapeseed oil used for esters production and on the way the methanolysis process is conducted. The glycerin fraction contains large amounts of methanol, soaps, catalyst, water, etc., which complicates its utilization. After undergoing a purification process, for example distillation, it can be used by pharmaceutical or cosmetic industry. Literature analysis demonstrates that there exists a possibility, with the correct choice of technology, of utilizing the glycerin fraction in burning processes. The knowledge of the chemical composition of the glycerin fraction allows for the correction of the parameters of burning or mixing it with other liquid fuels.
