The usefulness of raw material obtained from oak leaves, waste from paper mass and fragments of Miscanthus was verified with regard to pellet production. A batch of pellets produced therefrom was subjected to technological shear tests with the use of prototype equipment. Also pellets produced by well-known Polish producers were tested. The suggested method of technological shear enables obtaining credible results through standardization of tests conditions. Statistical processing of results proved that there are significant differences in the values of shear strength and unit shear work obtained for both group of pellets. An experimental batch of pellets has a lower density and thus lower shear strength which limits the scope of industrial application. The research which was carried out proved that there is a strong correlation between mechanical strength and density.

Weryfikowano przydatność surowca pozyskanego z liści dębu, odpadów z masy papierowej oraz fragmentów miskantusa do produkcji peletów. Wytworzoną z tych surowców partię peletów poddano testom technologicznego ścinania z wykorzystaniem prototypowego oprzyrządowania. Testowano również pelety wyprodukowane przez znanych polskich producentów. Proponowana metoda technologicznego ścinania umożliwia uzyskanie wiarygodnych rezultatów poprzez standaryzację warunków testu. Statystyczna obróbka wyników wykazała, że istnieją istotne różnice w wartościach wytrzymałości na ścinanie oraz jednostkowej pracy ścinania uzyskane dla obu grup peletów. Eksperymentalna partia peletów cechuje się mniejszą gęstością a tym samym mniejszą wytrzymałością na ścinanie, co ogranicza zakres jej przemysłowego stosowania. Przeprowadzone badania po-twierdziły, że istnieje silna korelacja pomiędzy wytrzymałością mechaniczną a gęstością.

The researches made in September 2013 in 44 points allowed to perform the map of carbon dioxide concentration in soilair of Muszyna region. It were made in order to estimate groundwater resources in Andrzejówka and Milik in OG Muszynianka. These measurements are upgrading analysis from 2004. WG-2M was used as a measuring instrument. Obtained values were included between 0 and 4.5% vol. There is clearly visible, that the anomaly areas laying accordingly to the faults and it is connected to subductive carbon dioxide. It allows to designate deposits of mineral water, confirm the tectonics and finally, chose the path of further rational management policy of mineral water.

Constantly growing demand of water makes it necessary to search for new perspective areas in terms of gain groundwater. Dębica area is located on the border of two geological units: the Outer Carpathians and the Carpathian Foredeep. Currently, that area suffers from water deficiency, which would have been earmarked for utility purposes. To understand this problem quantitative and qualitative assessment of the groundwater status in two catchements on this area was made. Research in the catchments of Ostra and Zawadka was made on September 2013. For the purpose of estimating the size of quantitative resource of Zawadka and Ostra catchments the method based on information of the recharging infiltration rate was used (Nescieruk et al. 1992, Korzec & Dendys 2014, Mars 2014). Calculation of flow rate was based on measurements of floating object method and volumetric method (Bajkiewicz-Grabowska & Magnuszewski 2002). Furthermore, the depth of the groundwater table was estimated based on measurements performed on the wells located in that area. For qualitative status assessment samples were taken for physico-chemical analysis, which was made by accredited hydrogeochemical laboratory KHiGI AGH UST (Stefańska 2014). Bacteriological analysis was carried out in the sanitary-epidemiological station in Jasło. The results were used to perform water tablemap, define disposable resources (2902.2 m3/d in Zawadka catchement and 4940.3 m3/d in Ostra catchement) and admissible volume of ground-water evaluation (1802.2 m3/d in Zawadka catchement and 4191.9 m3/d in Ostra catchement) (Dendys & Korzec 2014, Mars 2014). Finally, quantitative status of Ostra and Zawadka catchment was classified as good. The results of chemical analysis were compared with the Ministry of Health Regulation about health suitability of water for human consumption. The value of nitrates was up over 100 mg/L (at the permitted 50 mg/L) at Ostra catchenment. Additionally, water cannot be collected, due to exceeded value of the bacterial content of Coliform Group Bacteria and Escherichia coli at Zawadka and Ostra catchement. In summary water is not suitable for drinking (compared with Ministry of Health Regulation – Rozporządzenie...2010).

The quickest developments of non-invasive medical diagnostic methods are observed. One of them is high-resolution ultrasonic imaging. It can demonstrate the layers of the arterial wall with a high degree of clarity. The paper deals with the short description of the computerised system for measurement of the intima-media thickness, which can be used for the evaluation of the vascular wall. The image transformations, which improve quality of the ultrasonography images during computerised medical evaluation, are presented. The measurement can be performed manually or semi-automatic. The system is based on Doppler-duplex ultrasonography system and IBM PC computer with frame grabber board. Measurement are performed off-line on the frozen images recorded on videotape although real-time images are also recorded to simplify the evaluation of the structure. The described system can be use for archival purposes as well for current medical diagnostics. The computer software is written in Visual C++ programming language under WINDOWS system.
