The study discusses the changes in the land cover in the western part of the Zduńska Wola city. The study was based on the analysis of land cover data obtained from aerial photographs taken in years 1933 and 2015. For 82 years, significant changes took place in the city and they were reflected in land cover changes. The study area was covering 3.7 km2 and in the analysed period, the land cover changes took an area of 2.8 km², that is 75,7% of its surface. Changes mainly occurred on the grassy and agricultural areas, which were changed in to artificial surfaces, mainly into builtup areas.

Artykuł dotyczy wyboru najlepszej metody transformacji, dostępnej w ramach oprogramowania ArcGIS 10.0, do nadania georeferencji kartograficznym materiałom archiwalnym. Jako obiekt badań posłużyła Mapa Projektowanej Oczyszczalni Ścieków Lublinek w Łodzi z 1909 roku. Autorzy zbadali sześć dostępnych rodzajów transformacji i powodowane przez nie deformacje mapy. Posługując się wielkością błędów kalibracji oraz metodą siatki zniekształceń, wybrali najlepszy, ich zdaniem, rodzaj korekcji geometrycznej, która umożliwi najdokładniejsze wpasowanie przestrzenne mapy i wektoryzację materiałów archiwalnych.

This paper aims to verify and choose the best georeferencing method available in ArcGIS 10.0 for archival cartographic documents. In the research six georeferencing methods were examined and a distortion caused by each of them was calculated. Using the RMS values and maps of distortions the transformation has been chosen, which allows to make the most accurate adjustment and the vectorisation of the archival map under consideration.
