Pobrano 13 próbek śniegu z obszaru o powierzchni 600 ha położonego w rejonie górniczym (wydobycie skał węglanowych) i zbadano je pod kątem pH, przewodnictwa elektrolitycznego oraz zawartości jonów Cl⁻, Ca²⁺, NO₃⁻ i SO₄²⁻. W ciągu 2 tygodni występowania pokrywy śnieżnej kilkakrotnie wzrosła zawartość badanych jonów oraz pH i przewodnictwo elektrolityczne.

The article demonstrates the results of the research studies related to the air polluted with heavy metals in the area of Swietokrzyski National Park. The two-year-old needles of Abies alba (Mill) were used as the bioindicator with the intention of carrying out the research. The studies were conducted in the autumn of 2012. The results showed the spatial variability of concentrations in the range of the analysed metal deposition patterns in the needles of Abies alba (Mill). The average content of the analysed elements seemed to be the highest in the case of zinc (26.6 mg·kg–1 d.m.), strontium (6.5 mg·kg–1 d.m.) and nickel (1.6 mg·kg–1 d.m.). The research studies revealed that the significant role in determining the content of heavy metals in the two-year-old needles was played by the communication. The highest values were recorded at the research sites situated in the immediate neighbourhood of the voivodeship roads. It was also confirmed that the content of metals was influenced by the so-called low emission from the household and welfare sector together with the remote imission.

The article reveals the outcomes of the research studies related to air polluted with heavy metals in Swietokrzyski National Park. The thalli of Hypogymnia physodes L. were used as the bioindicator in order to conduct the research. The samples of monk’s-hood lichen were transplanted from the unpolluted area of north-eastern Poland to the area of Swietokrzyski National Park. The research studies were carried out in the warmer half of 2019. The received outcomes indicated the spatial variability of concentrations in the range of analysed metal deposition patterns in the lichen thalli. The average content of the analysed elements tended to be the highest in the case of iron (1,111 mg × kg–1 d.m.), zinc (87.7 mg × kg–1 d.m.) and strontium (27.7 mg × kg–1 d.m.). The research revealed that the important role in determining the content of heavy metals in the lichen thalli was played by the communication. The highest values were recorded at the sites located in the immediate neighbourhood of the voivodeship roads. It was verified that the content of metals was also influenced by the so-called low emission from the household and welfare sector as well as remote immission.

In arid areas, with rivers functioning episodically, alluvial resources are the main source of water. Considering the intensified regulation of discharge in montane catchments, supplying the intermittent rivers, in the nearest future alluvial aquifers will gain key importance for the functioning of people in arid zones. The research aimed to investigate the diversified chemistry of alluvial waters typical of large intermittent river valleys in hot arid zones as well as to analyse processes determining the water chemistry and affecting its diversity. The detailed study, carried out in October 2015, covered the Draa river valley (1100 km total length) in the region of the Mhamid Oasis. The examined water was sampled from all wells found in the study area. Concentrations of the main cations: Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Na+, NH4+, and Li+, anions: Cl−, SO42−, HCO3−, and NO3−, as well as trace elements: Al, As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sr, and Zn, were identified. Results were analysed with statistical, hydrochemical, and geochemical modelling methods. Alluvial waters of the eastern and western part of the oasis differed in concentrations of numerous components, what resulted from the regulation of irrigation. Specific electrical conductivity showed a 3.5-fold increase, from 3800 to 13800 μS/cm, consistent with the direction of water flow in the oasis, from east to west. Even a greater rise was observed for ions: Cl− (6x), Na+ (5.5x), Mg2+ (5.0x), Ca2+, and SO42− (3.5x). Such a composition indicated multiionic hydrochemical type of waters dominated by Na+ and Cl−. Additionally, high Pearson correlation coefficients were recorded for Na+ and Cl− (0.98) as well as Mg2+ and Cl− (0.97). The saturation index suggested that the main water components originated from dissolving of minerals such as halite, anhydrite, sylvite, and gypsum. Groundwater chemistry in the Mhamid Oasis was determined mainly by geogenic processes, such as dissolving of evaporates, precipitation of carbonate minerals, and ion exchange.

The monitoring of selected physicochemical parameters and chemical composition of water was conducted in 2017-2018 in the Lubrzanka river and the Cedzyna reservoir (Swietokrzyskie Mountains, Poland). The results indicate that the impact of reservoir on the quality of river water depends on natural characteristics of the catchment as well as on the present anthropogenic pressure. Retention of water in the reservoir caused seasonally diversified changes in analysed parameters, including an increase in water temperature, retention of major ions, nutrients and trace elements. Further research is needed to assess the risk of contamination of lower course of the river with metals deposited in reservoir’s bottom sediments.

In melted snow samples collected in the vicinity of the ironworks in Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski, physicochemical properties and chemical composition were determined for heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Zn, Al, Fe) as well as major cations and anions. The industrial plant was the centre of the field studies, and the remaining snow sampling sites were located along the north-south and east-west axis. In total, 18 snow samples were collected on 31st Jan. 2017 (Fig. 1). At that time, a snow cover had been remaining in the vicinity of the plant for over four weeks, which allowed for deposition of pollutants, including metallurgical dust containing, among others, heavy metals. Concentrations of dissolved metal forms were analysed using an ICP-MS-TOF spectrometer. The highest concentrations were reported for iron (mean value: 62.50 •g • dm–3), zinc (57.14 •g • dm–3), manganese (15.51 •g • dm–3), aluminium (8.10 •g • dm–3) and copper (1.72 •g • dm–3). Concentrations of lead, cadmium, chromium, cobalt and nickel did not exceed 1 •g • dm–3. The results of analyses as well as spatial distribution of concentrations of some heavy metals in the collected snow samples indicated a clear impact of the emission of air pollutants by the ironworks in Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski on its immediate surroundings.

W stopionych próbkach śniegu, pobranych w rejonie huty żelaza w Ostrowcu Świętokrzyskim oznaczono właściwości fizyczno-chemiczne i skład chemiczny za zawartość metali ciężkich (Pb, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Zn, Al, Fe) oraz głównych kationów i anionów. Zakład przemysłowy stanowił centralny punkt badań terenowych, pozostałe punkty poboru prób śniegu zlokalizowano wzdłuż osi północ–południe i wschód–zachód.
