The article presents deliberations about a small city as a desirable living environment of a multi-layered character focusing on sociological issues that take into account the lifestyle of the residents and their preferences. Environmental studies, which reflected the expectations of the residents regarding their living environment, proved to be very important for the matter of the paper. Another issue related to small cities is the architecture responsible for the vitality of the place, its character and intimacy. It often determines the attractiveness of the centre, its history and culture. The considerations provided by the authors were supported by urban analyses, interviews, literature studies and own observations regarding selected urban centres located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship.

W artykule przedstawiono rozważania na temat małego miasta jako pożądanego środowiska zamieszkania o wielowątkowym charakterze skupiającym zagadnienia socjologiczne uwzględniające styl życia mieszkańców oraz ich preferencje. Dla tej części rozważań istotne okazały się badania środowiskowe, których wyniki odzwierciedliły oczekiwania mieszkańców względem ich środowiska zamieszkania. Drugi wątek towarzyszący małym miastom to architektura odpowiadająca za żywotność miejsca, jego nastrój oraz kameralność. Niejednokrotnie decyduje o atrakcyjności ośrodka, jego historii i kulturze. Wskazane rozważania podparte zostały analizami urbanistycznymi, wywiadami, studiami literatury oraz własnymi spostrzeżeniami dotyczącymi wybranych miast zlokalizowanych w województwie podkarpackim.

The article deals with the problem of increasing demand for modular buildings as an answer to the construction industry’s current situation and challenges of build environment. The case studies refer to the hospitality and student living sector. The author addresses the following question regarding the near future of the modular construction industry: How would it reflect on urban space, living space and the whole attitude toward modular construction issues? What is the role of the architect during the design-build process? Is it possible to make references to “beauty” in a modular construction context?

Artykuł podejmuje problematykę rosnącego popytu i zapotrzebowania na realizację obiektów w oparciu o wolumetryczną technologię modułową jako odpowiedź na potrzeby zrównoważonego rozwoju. Jako przykłady wskazuje autor wskazuje obiekty hotelowe i obiekty zamieszkania studenckiego. Autor stawia pytanie o przyszłość budownictwa modułowego. Jaki wpływ będzie ono miało na kształtowanie przestrzeni miejskiej i na przestrzeń życiową? Jaka jest rola architekta podczas procesu zaprojektuj-wybuduj? Czy możliwe jest odniesienie wartości „piękna” do rozwiązań w systemie modułowym?

The Social media represents, without a doubt, the most important avenue of communication on the modern Internet and the foremost tool of Web 2.0 technology. Its roots can be found in the ancient groupware technology, but its modern applications are beyond anything those users of old could have imagined. In recent years, it has morphed yet again, incorporating the prevalent new mobile technology as its delivery mechanism. The term “social media”, coined by Chris Shipley, includes the sum of the online tools and utilities that allow communication, participation and collaboration, including blogs and micro-blogs, social networking sites, wikis, podcasts and videocasts, social bookmarking and virtual worlds. At the end of 2015, over 2 billion users worldwide could access social media accounts and interact with one another on mobile phones, thus generating a wealth of data to be mined by marketers all over the world. However, this unprecedented access to consumer data (in conjunction with multiple user connections) has raised a number of privacy concerns, which have only grown in the last few years. This paper, detailing a study conducted for over a year on a wide variety of subjects, aims at interdisciplinary development of a clustering model based on both usage and perception variables, coupled with various psychographic predictor items, such as users’ attitude towards social media, users’ utilitarian and hedonic motivation, normative beliefs, perceived self-efficacy, various lifestyle variables, as well as overall trust and perception of privacy-associated risks. The proposed model is developed using discriminant analysis and it allows us to put forward four different user groups in terms of privacy concerns over social media. The management implications of our findings are also discussed and innovative ways proposed to deal with the ethical issues associated with the ever-growing lack of online privacy.

Media społecznościowe bez wątpienia stanowią najważniejszą drogę komunikacji w nowoczesnym Internecie i są najważniejszym narzędziem technologii Web 2.0. Ich korzenie sięgają starożytnej technologii pracy zespołowej, ale jej nowoczesne zastosowania wykraczają poza wszystko, co mogliby sobie wyobrazić dawni użytkownicy. W ostatnich latach nastąpiła kolejna zmiana, jako mechanizm dostarczania wykorzystano popularną nową technologię mobilną. Termin "media społecznościowe", którego autorem jest Chris Shipley, obejmuje narzędzia i programy narzędziowe, które umożliwiają komunikację, uczestnictwo i współpracę online, czyli blogi i mikroblogi, serwisy społecznościowe, serwisy wiki, podcasty i wideoklipy, zakładki społecznościowe i wirtualne światy. Pod koniec 2015 roku ponad 2 miliardy użytkowników na całym świecie uzyskało dostęp do kont mediów społecznościowych i mogąc nawiązywać z nimi interakcje w telefonach komórkowych, generując w ten sposób bogactwo danych, które będą pozyskiwane przez marketerów z całego świata. Jednak ten bezprecedensowy dostęp do danych konsumenckich (w połączeniu z wieloma połączeniami użytkowników) wywołał szereg obaw dotyczących prywatności, które znacznie wzrosły w ciągu ostatnich kilku lat. Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje badania prowadzone przez ponad rok, ma na celu interdyscyplinarny rozwój modelu klastrowego opartego zarówno na zmiennych dotyczących użytkowania, jak i postrzegania, w połączeniu z różnymi elementami predykcji psychograficznej, takimi jak stosunek użytkowników do mediów społecznościowych, motywacja utylitarna i hedoniczna użytkowników, przekonania normatywne, postrzegana samo-skuteczność, różne zmienne stylu życia, a także ogólne zaufanie i postrzeganie ryzyka związanego z prywatnością. Proponowany model został opracowany przy użyciu analizy dyskryminacyjnej i pozwolił autorom wyłonić cztery różne grupy użytkowników pod względem obaw dotyczących prywatności w mediach społecznościowych. W artykule omówiono także wpływ wyciągniętych przez autorów wniosków z badania na zarządzanie oraz zaproponowano innowacyjne sposoby radzenia sobie z problemami etycznymi związanymi z ciągle rosnącym brakiem prywatności w Internecie.

This paper presents a novel sideslip angle estimator based on the pseudo-multi-sensor fusion method. The kinematics-based and dynamics-based sideslip angle estimators are designed for sideslip angle estimation. Also, considering the influence of ill-conditioned matrix and model uncertainty, a novel sideslip angle estimator is proposed based on the wheel speed coupling relationship using a modified recursive least squares algorithm. In order to integrate the advantages of above three sideslip angle estimators, drawing lessons from the multisensory information fusion technology, a novel thinking of sideslip angle estimator design is presented through information fusion of pseudo-multi-sensors. Simulations and experiments were carried out, and effectiveness of the proposed estimation method was verified.

Increasing concentrations of aluminum phosphide (AlP) in waste fumigants and residues pose a serious threat to human health. This study focused on the effectiveness of the widely used simple immersion treatment for waste fumigants from shipments, which usually have a higher concentration of residual AlP. A field survey of an operational process was conducted followed by a quantitative analysis of the immersion treatment's hydrolytic effect on AlP. Further investigation on the safety of waste fumigants after the immersion treatment was conducted. It was found that the AlP concentration in the waste fumigant varied significantly with the sampling date, ranging from 12.93 +/- 0.67 wt. % to 29.50 +/- 1.18 wt. %. Simple immersion treatment could reduce the concentration of residual AlP in waste fumigants but the hydrolytic effect varied largely ranging from 19.5% to 31.9%. The concentration of residual AlP remained high (9.1-20.1 wt. %) after the immersion treatment. About 3.2-15.2 wt. % of AlP remained in the samples, following an additional 40 days of natural air-drying when phosphine gas release was not detected. The study indicates that conventional simple immersion treatment cannot ensure the complete hydrolysis of AlP from waste fumigants of shipments.

The effect of colloidal montmorillonite (MMT) on froth flotation of graphite, galena and fluorite was investigated in this work. The results showed that the presence of sufficient amount of colloidal MMT particles in the mineral slurry would be detrimental of flotation by reducing the recovery of minerals. This observation was attributed to slime coating of MMT on the coarse valuable mineral particles and entrainment of MMT particles in the froth product together with water in the triangle froth zones. The former would reduce the recovery of the valuable minerals because of hydrophilic MMT coating. The latter would decrease the concentrate grade. The degree of slime coating depended on slurry pH, while the degree of entrainment was closely related to water recovery. It was also found that slime coating was a dominant factor in mineral flotation in acidic pH regions in the presence of colloidal MMT particles.

A better understanding of rockburst precursors and high stress distribution characteristics can allow for higher extraction efficiency with reduced safety concerns. Taking the rockburst that occurred on 30 January 2015 in the Sanhejian Coal Mine, Jiangsu Province, China, as an example, the mechanism of rockburst development in a roadway was analysed, and a combined method involving b values and seismic velocity tomography was used to assess the rockburst in both time and space, respectively. The results indicate that before the rockburst, b values dropped significantly from 0.829 to 0.373. Moreover, a good agreement between a significant decrease in b values and the increase of the number of strong tremors was found. Using seismic tomography, two rockburst risk areas were determined where the maximum velocity, maximum velocity anomaly and maximum velocity gradient anomaly were 6 km/s, 0.14 and 0.13, respectively. The high-velocity regions corresponded well with the rockburst zone and large seismic event distributions. The combination of b values and seismic tomography is proven to have been a promising tool for use in evaluating rockburst risk during underground coal mining.

The risk level of the Aids to Navigation (AtoNs) can reflect the ship navigation safety level in the channel to some extent. In order to appreciate the risk level of the aids to navigation (AtoNs) in a navigation channel and to provide some decision‐making suggestions for the AtoNs Maintenance and Management Department, the risk assessment index system of the AtoNs was built considering the advanced experience of IALA. Under the Formal Safety Assessment frame, taking the advantages of the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method, the fuzzy‐FSA model of risk assessment for aids to navigation was established. The model was implemented for the assessment of aids to navigation in Shanghai area based on the aids to navigation three‐dimensional simulation system. The real‐time data were extracted from the existing information system of aids to navigation, and the real‐time risk assessment for aids to navigation of the chosen channel was performed on platform of the three‐dimensional simulation system, with the risk assessment software. Specifically, the deep‐water channel of the Yangtze River estuary was taken as an example to illustrate the general assessment procedure. The method proposed presents practical significance and application prospect on the maintenance and management of the aids to navigation.

In this paper, analytical expressions for the distribution of the envelope and phase of linearly modulated signals such as BPSK, M-PSK, and M-QAM in AWGN are presented. We perform numerical simulations for different orders of signal constellations. The results show that the proposed theoretical models are in excellent agreement with the estimated distributions from various numerical experiments.

Palygorskite (PG) supported La1-xSrxMnO3 catalysts were fabricated by copreripitation. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), specific surface area (SSA) and H2 temperature programmed reduction (H 2-TPR). Catalytic activity for VOCs was examined by using toluene as a model compound. The results show that the surface area as well as mechanical strength of catalysts increase substantially after catalysts loaded in PG. XRD patterns show that after calcination at 700 0C, PG as a support in 9% LaMn03/PG and 9% La0.7Sr0.3MnO3/PG was transformed into amorphous phase and the morphology was not destroyed. It was well established that the main reductive components are factually Mn(III) or Mn(IV) oxides in catalysts based on the results of TPR. It was also found that Mn(IV) increases while Mn(III) reduces responding with the increasing amount of Sr. Toluene conversion rate of as-preparedμ% La1-xSr xMnO3/PG increases with the increasing values of x and μ when x=0-0.3 and μ = 3-9%. Toluene can be converted completely at 285 0C by 9% La0.7Sr0.3MnO3/PG catalyst while no significant change was observed after addition on the doping and loading amount of Sr. During a 100 h stability experiment of 9% La 0.7Sr0.3MnO3/PG catalyst, toluene removal was found to be above 95%.

An experimental set up was developed to evaluate the role of the water jet inclination angle during the hydroentanglement process. Hydroentangled bicomponent nonwoven fabrics were made using the inclined water jet apparatus designed. The effects of water jet inclination angles are discussed and evaluation was made on the basis of the fabric tensile strength. The experimental results revealed that the use of inclined water jets increases the fabric’s tensile strength. An inclination angle of 10 degrees was the optimum, showing higher tensile strength for all nonwoven fabrics tested. These results confirmed that with an optimum water jet inclination angle in the hydroentanglement process, the fabric’s tensile strength can be improved.

Opracowano eksperymentalne stanowisko dla określenia znaczenia kąta nachylenia strumienia wody podczas otrzymywania włóknin. Wytwarzano dwuskładnikowe włókniny stosując strumienie wody o różnym nachyleniu. Przeanalizowano wpływ kąta strumienia i oceniono biorąc jako kryterium wytrzymałość włókniny. Stwierdzono, że kąt nachylenia strumieni wody równy 10 stopni był optymalny ponieważ przy takim kącie uzyskano największe wytrzymałości wszystkich wytwarzanych podczas testu włóknin.
