The paper presents the issue of database design involving a novel concept of Association-Oriented Database Metamodel, namely separate relationship inheritance. We show the modeling methodology as well as a case study of the real-world scenario within knowledge-based system: Extended Semantic Network Module of Semantic Knowledge Base.
The paper presents the basic conceptions of mapping database schemata from relational metamodel to association-oriented metamodel using the database design patterns.
The paper presents results of authors research regarding structural database design patterns for association-oriented database metamodel. The presented design pattern BACT represents complex entity which has features of data storage (data aspect) and connecting with other entities (relationships aspect). The structure, participants, querying examples and generalization of the pattern have been presented. The proposed design pattern is dedicated for association-oriented metamodel (AODB), which is novel approach for semantic database system modeling with possibility of implementation.
