100 lat industrialnej katedry – Elektrociepłownia Szombierki w Bytomiu

Zlokalizowana w Bytomiu Elektrociepłownia Szombierki, nazywana „industrialną katedrą”, obchodziła w roku 2020 stulecie oficjalnego uruchomienia. Nieużytkowany obecnie obiekt został zaprojektowany przez Emila i Georga Zillmannów, jednych z ważniejszych twórców architektury przemysłowej początku XX wieku na Górnym Śląsku. Stanowi egzemplifikację monumentalnej architektury industrialnej, realizującej formą koncepcję „sakralizacji pracy”. Zespół zabudowy Elektrociepłowni Szombierki, wpisany do rejestru zabytków w roku 2013, znalazł się na ogłoszonej przez federację Europa Nostra liście „7 zagrożonych obiektów europejskiego dziedzictwa 2020”. Artykuł przybliża z okazji jubileuszu sylwetkę tego cennego zabytku techniki poprzez ukazanie jego historii oraz walorów architektonicznych. Uwagę poświęcono również przedstawieniu stanu zachowania obiektu oraz problematyce jego przyszłego zagospodarowania.

The Szombierki Combined Heat and Power Plant celebrated the centenary of its official launch in 2020. The currently disused building is located in Bytom. It was designed by Emil and Georg Zillmann, one of the most important architects of the early twentieth century in Upper Silesia. The Combined Heat and Power Plant, called an “industrial cathedral,” is an example of monumental industrial architecture, implementing the concept of “sacralisation of work.” The complex of buildings of the Szombierki CHP Plant, entered into the register of monuments in 2013, was included on the list of “Europe’s 7 Most Endangered heritage sites 2020” announced by Europa Nostra. On the occasion of the jubilee, this paper presents this valuable technical monument by describing its history and architectural values. Attention is also focused on the presentation of the building’s state of preservation and the problem of its future adaptation.

Czternastego grudnia 2017 r. Dominika Oleś odebrała wyróżnienie w konkursie organizowanym przez Generalnego Konserwatora Zabytków oraz Stowarzyszenie Konserwatorów Zabytków na najlepsze prace studialne, naukowe oraz popularyzatorskie dotyczące ochrony zabytków i muzealnictwa. Wyróżnioną pracę magisterską obroniono na Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Wrocławskiej w lipcu 2017 r. W artykule przedstawiono fragmenty części graficznej oraz skrótowo opisano główne idee pracy zatytułowanej Projekt rewitalizacji terenu po dawnej hucie cynku Uthemann w Katowicach-Szopienicach na cele kulturowo-biznesowe. Głównym zamierzeniem projektu było stworzenie propozycji wykorzystania kompleksu poprzemysłowego przy jednoczesnym pogodzeniu współczesnego kontekstu z zachowaniem cennego dla Śląska dziedzictwa.

On the 14th of December 2017 Dominika Oleś received an award with a distinction in the competition organized by the General Conservator of Monuments and Historical Monuments and Art Conservators Association Poland for the best scientific and popularizing works pertaining to conservation of monuments and museology. The honored master thesis was defended at the Faculty of Architecture of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology in July 2017. The article presents fragments of the graphic part of the project and describes the main ideas of master diploma Projekt rewitalizacji terenu po dawnej hucie cynku Uthemann w Katowicach-Szopienicach na cele kulturowo-biznesowe (Revitalization project of the area of the former zinc smelter Uthemann in Katowice-Szopienice for cultural-business functions). The main project’s intension was to creatie a suggestion of the use of the postindustrial complex at the same time compromising the contemporary context and preservating the precious Silesian heritage.
