Quality assessment of synthetic speech

This paper presents the results of a subjective study of the quality assessment of several selected speech synthesizers. The subjects of the study were logatom intelligibility and overall speech signal quality evaluation. Synthesizers generating both male and female voices were used for the study. An attempt was also made to apply objective quality assessment methods used to test the quality of transmission in telecommunications channels. The results of these attempts, however, showed the impossibility of using the PESQ method to assess the quality of synthetic speech, mainly due to the lack of temporal synchronization between the test signal and the reference signal.

Sound insulation of a double wall made of silicate blocks – comparison of modelling results and measurements in real conditions

The article concerns the acoustic insulation of a double wall made of silicate blocks. A comparison is presented between the results of theoretical modelling and acoustic measurements of the completed partition. The paper focuses in particular on the differences observed in the low frequency range. Consideration is given to the influence of the natural modal distribution on the resultant sound insulation. The discussion on the basis of the collected results of comparing computer modelling and acoustic measurements of the physically realised wall was used to formulate the final conclusions.

Artykuł dotyczy izolacyjności akustycznej ściany podwójnej wykonanej z bloczków silikatowych. Przedstawiono porównanie wyników modelowania teoretycznego z rezultatami pomiarów akustycznych wykonanej przegrody. Skupiono się przede wszystkim na zauważonych różnicach w zakresie małych częstotliwości. Przedstawiono rozważania dotyczące wpływu rozkładu modów własnych na wypadkową izolacyjność akustyczną. Analiza zebranych wyników porównania modelowania komputerowego oraz pomiarów akustycznych fizycznie zrealizowanej przegrody posłużyła do sformułowania wniosków końcowych.
