Modern ways of device development use the concept of a digital twin. A digital twin is an accurate digital copy of something that exists or is planned to be realized in the physical world. The digital twin is not only a virtual model of the physical system, but also a dynamic data and status information carrier obtained through a series of IoT-connected sensors that collect data from the physical world and send it to machines. The digital twin provides an overview of what is happening to the device in real time. This is very important in industry as this information is helpful to reduce maintenance issues and ensure production performance. This work focuses on the design and creation of a cybernetic physical system and its digital twin, based on CAD system modeling in conjunction with simulation and programming tools connected to real and simulated control systems. This process accelerates the development of the application implementation with the possibility to create a PLC control program and tune the system already in the design phase. Thus, the physical realization can be done in parallel with the programming and creation of the HMI interface. Modular programming will further accelerate software development [1]. The created system and its digital twin serve as a unified teaching tool without the need for real devices to be used by many students and users. This approach allows testing of program algorithms without the risk of damaging physical devices and is also suitable for distance learning.

The tunnel central control system is designed for maintaining the necessary safety and resistance against failures as a system fully redundant at all levels. All hardware components of the control system and their connections are doubled. Control system is based on the programmable logic controllers (PLC’s) and used the industrial buses on an optical and metallic physical layer. This system controls the traffic and all tunnel equipment systems (variable traffic signs, various lighting elements, ventilation system, etc.). Nowadays the control strategy is based on measured data inside the tunnel, metrological information and operator’s commands. The control strategy or algorithm must be enhanced to obtain better or optimal results. Using of model predictive control (MPC) may lead to optimize the control way for chosen criteria. MPC can be implemented to PLC by several methods.

This paper considers the issue of vertical position control of a ball placed on a disc. The aim of this work is to create a fuzzy logic controller able to manage the issue of ball and wheel. The second chapter describes the identification system. In the next chapter a Fuzzy controller is described. The last chapter is dedicated to results of implemented fuzzy controller. Most of control tasks in transport are non-linear. This application should help to apply a fuzzy control in such systems.

The paper describes an initial approach adopted by the authors to create a system usable to monitor the road surface deformations in time and to model them in the 3D environment. To obtain measured data a 2D laser scanner is used to measure a distance of the real environment points. The main part of the paper deals with the derivation of formulas used by a measurement unit to calculate the point coordinates. The formulas result from and reflex a method of 3D measurement using an accelerometer and a gyroscope. The practical experiments have confirmed the ability of the measurement unit to scan the road deformation and the surrounding environment.

The paper deals with importance of hypothesis in the process of scientific research. The authors explain meaning of commonly used basic terms and characterize research methodology, research process and its structure as well as types of research problems. The main attention is paid to the role of hypotheses, their classification and possible formulations.

Content available Development trends and risks of railroad crossings
EN
The application of new technologies on railroad crossings goes along with many questions, which answering should forego the implementation itself. The paper presents basic problems of crossings and the classification of generic railroad crossings according to the European Railway Agency. Therefore the goal of this paper is to present the current state and prospects in the field of railroad crossings in the light of the present-day situation, whereby the major attention is aimed at two fields – new technologies and overview of risk analysis methods applied worldwide on railroad crossings.

Cost-benefit analysis (CBA) is a prescriptive technique that is performed for the purpose of inforaiing policy makers about what they ought to do. The paper discusses the problem of assigning a monetary value to human life (lifesaving or quality of life) as an important factor used in the CBA. Presented ideas come from the project SELCAT solved within the 6th Frame Program.

NetLogo [1] is a multi-agent programming language and cross platform modelling environment for simulation of complex phenomena and is designed for both research and education. It is used across a wide range of discip1ines and education levels. In this paper, though, we focus on NetLogo as a tool for creating traffic models and their simulation and present a level crossing example.

Content available remote Electronic toll collection - a part of the Slovak ITS architecture
EN
The paper deals with creating object oriented model of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) with a special attention paid to systems of electronic toll collection (ETC), which are discussed here in more details as a part of created logic (functional and information) architecture. Even though it results from European FRAME architecture and some other national architectures, unlike them it is based on object-oriented approach. The authors show how the Unified Modeling Language can be used to create a proper model representing functional specification of the future telematic system.

EN
Railway signalling systems are typically designed to behave in accordance with principles of failsafety. Although there is a certain risk and it cannot be completly eliminated. For that reason the term "safety" must be seen in a relative sense. Generally risk analysis should be realised in initial phases of system life cycle though. In the main the article deals with communication that is the most important aspect during the entire process of system development.
