Polish airports show nowadays a dynamic development phase. The passenger traffic in them has grown considerably during last years. This general development is accompanied by the system transformation of the air transport. One of the most visible aspect of this transformation is the fall of the central airport role in comparison to regional ones: mostly due to liberalization and deregulation of the air transport. Poland, a member of the “open sky” agreement, has accepted the functioning of low cost carriers in the national air transport market, which mainly use the regional airport, because of the economic reasons. 11 Polish airports (that of Szczytno does not function actually) cannot satisfy air transport needs. The greatest deficit of this kind of air transport infrastructure is observed in Eastern Poland. But in Poland there are some 60 airfields, which form a potential for the further development of the airports network. But the costs of their modernization will mater considerably. According to prognoses, the further dynamic growth of the air transport is hoped. For the proper functioning of the existing airports, the creation of the new ones is necessary.
