Multipath interferences are one of the main GPS error sources nowadays. The additional observation type of signal-to-noise ratio provides appropriate information to identify areas with degraded data quality due to multipath reflections. After a short introduction to signal-to-noise ratio is related to the phase tracking error of the original phase measurements and derived linear combinations. This relation can be used to support the idividual weighting of the observations in the processing. A promising weighting strategy is presented and the positive impact to the processing is evaluated. The impact of the presented theory is shown on several real datasets.

This paper summarizes the status of the current work on site equipment and monitoring within the CERGOP-2 work package four. Out of the approximately 20 new CERGOP-2 stations three are delivering data regularly and five more are installed already. In WP4 the model station recording in Munich is analyzed with respect to hardware calibration and data quality. First results on the analysis strategy for the usage of double- and zero difference residuals in the description of site-dependent observation noise are presented.

This paper presents recent developments of the extension and densification of the Central European Geodynamic Reference Network (CEGRN). More than 20 new permanent GPS observation sites are going to be installed until end of 2004. Three of those are already operable. To aid a setup of similar design and quality a model station has been compiled and purchased by Work Package 4 of CERGOP-2 project. For all individual modules design criteria and important requirements are presented here. In this combination they form a multi-purpose reference station for universal deployment.

This paper summarizes some effects that influence the estimation of station coordinates in case of no physical movement of the station itself. The examples of receiver tracking performance, antenna phase center variation and reliability of tropospheric estimation are assessed in detail. For the first effect the results of performance tests of the newly introduced GPS receiver Leica GRX1200 and the antenna Leica AX1202 are presented. The second effect is summarized in a section about the different types of antenna phase center corrections and respective calibration techniques. Within field tests the sensitivity and repeatability of antenna phase center variation were assessed. Thirdly, the results of a field experiment including GPS and microwave radiometry are presented to evaluate the reliability of tropospheric estimations and GPS derived station heights.

Work package 4 of the EU project CERGOP-2 has the task to develop new observation facilities and to set up a model permanent station for the use in the interdisciplinary multi purpose network CEGRN. Based on apoli among the partners and scientific criteria 20 new sites are selected as potential new locations. Further results of the poll included information on the requirements and the infrastructure at the designated stations. Taking the scientific goals into account a model station is developed and an outline of its design is given. Next steps will be the realization of this layout for the verification of its performance and its suitability for the tasks of CERGOP-2.
