The Chrząstowice PIG 1 borehole was drilled in 2023 in the north-eastern part of the Upper Silesian Block in the immediate vicinity of the Kraków-Lubliniec Fault Zone. The presence of hydrocarbons in the borehole was suggested by the characteristic fluorescence of vein calcite, prompting a further cycle of geochemical studies of organic matter and observations of fluid inclusions in vein-filling minerals.
Pyrite, chalcopyrite and molybdenite from the Myszków porphyry Mo-Cu-W deposit were investigatedfor trace elements by laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) to address their potential to preserve key-petrogenetic information. Specifically, we discussed the metallogenesis of the Myszków porphyry Mo-Cu-W deposit (petrogenetic objective), including the mechanisms of metal enrichment, new geochemical exploration proxies (prospecting objective), and finally, which is interesting from the economic point of view, trace elements impurities in selected sulfhides (raw material objective)
The article presents the mineralogical and petrological characterization of carbonate concretions with septarian fissures found in Carboniferous clastic sedimentary rocks from a deep borehole of Chrząstowice PIG 1 drilled in 2023 near the Kraków-Lubliniec Fault Zone. The concretions consist mainly of siderite and, less frequently, ankerite, accompanied by detrital phases of quartz, kaolinite, illite, chlorite, apatite, zircon, and titanium-iron oxide minerals. The nuclei of the conrections are built mostly of biogenic components, e.g. fossilized stalks. Septaria exhibit branching systems of open fractures filled with calcite, dolomite, quartz and apatite. Among the sulphide minerals, only pyrite is common. The presence of septarian veinlets provides insight into the diagenetic history of the host rock, specifically the involvement of hydrothermal fluids in the mineralization processes.
