This paper deals with military mobility, which in recent years has become one of the strategic priorities for both the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union (EU). The authors argue that the ability to quickly transport soldiers and military equipment over long distances across member states’ territories is a prerequisite for an effective and rapid military response by the allies. An analysis of the achievements to date shows that the European Union is one of the key actors in identifying and eliminating existing barriers and initiating necessary infrastructure construction. Simultaneously, close cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in this area allows the parties involved to achieve synergies. This paper analyzes the results achieved in the light of the assumed objectives. Simultaneously, elements that hinder military mobility and perspectives of the development of the studied issue are indicated.

Artykuł dotyczy ewolucji treści i strategii wojen morskich od XVI wieku, aż po czasy współczesne. Analiza sposobów prowadzenia wojny na morzu w ujęciu historycznym i współcześnie, innowacji technicznych pojawiających się na okrętach na przestrzeni stuleci czy też poglądów teoretyków wojen pozwala dostrzec perspektywy rozwoju form działań bojowych na morzu w XXI wieku. Prezentowane treści odzwierciedlają szerokie spektrum poglądów rodzimych i zagranicznych specjalistów problemu na ewolucję morskiej myśli operacyjnej oraz jej zastosowań w minionych i współczesnych wojnach i konfliktach na morzu.

The article concerns the evolution of the strategy used in naval warfare from 16th century to present day. Analyzing historical types of naval warfare, technical advances in ship building and the view of war strategists enables us to see the development of naval warfare in the 21st century. These points reflect the wide spectrum of views of specialist from Poland and abroad, concerned with the evolution of naval warfare and its application in past and present wars and conflicts on the sea.
