Although wood is one of the most ecological materials with a lot of advantageous properties, the main challenges of the wood-based panel industry have been located within the field of ecology. During the last 20 years, the wood-based panel industry has succeeded in solving most problems. Nevertheless, ecological demands have remained a challenge and are still causing the industries concern. This paper gives an overview about the actual challenges but will also mention the achievements of the past. It concentrates on issues concerning the production and application of particle boards, MDF and OSBAlthough wood is one of the most ecological materials with a lot of advantageous properties, the main challenges of the wood-based panel industry have been located within the field of ecology. Nevertheless, ecological demands have remained a challenge and are still causing the industries concern. It concentrates on issues concerning the production and application of particle boards, MDF and OSB.

Ekologiczne wyzwania dla przemysłu płyt drewnopochodnych to ograniczenie emisji formaldehydu i lotnych związków organicznych (VOC) z gotowych produktów, ograniczenie emisji gazów suszarnianych, utylizacja odpadów drzewnych, recykling odpadów produkcyjnych i poużytkowych oraz wykorzystanie energii z odpadów drzewnych. Większość związanych z ekologią problemów nurtujących przemysł płyt drewnopochodnych została obecnie rozwiązana. Procesy produkcyjne są dostosowane do obecnych wymagań ochrony środowiska. Przyszłość przyniesie nowe wyzwania, a zatem i nowe rozwiązania.
