Content available remote Appraise of consequences of erosive processes occurring in the Skawa river sector

Erosive processes have been evaluated in a sector of the Skawa river characterized by high pliability to erosion (proportion between the bend radius and the river channel width equals on the average 6.5). Within two years, channel erosion caused by 6 freshets was investigated with flows Q within the range of probability of waters from 20% to 50%. Bank and bottom erosion as well as transportation of the bed material and material from falls of bank slopes were found to occur. Intensity of this transportation was calculated based on Bagnold's equation. The calculated value of transported bed load was comparable with that obtained from direct measurements. The effects of transportation were also reflected by changes of the grain size distributions after passage of a freshet wave. Bank erosion was the dominating process that changed the river channel shape. It was found that in the examined sector the retreat of the bank slope proceeded at the rate of 1.20 m/year.

Mountain streams crossing an urban area have typical for communication and hydraulic structures such as small bridges, foot-bridges, culverts, outlets of drains etc. Their construction and location can act on flow capacity. In this paper an estimation of hydraulic conditions of three mountain streams is presented. There are Ryta, Rzyczanka and Porębski creeks crossing by the Andrychów municipality. For urban sections of each creek them measurements were carried out. They were concerning the longitudinal profiles, cross-sections, and grain size distributions of the bed material. An inventory of hydraulic and hydrobiological structures has been made too. Results were used to calculate the most important hydraulic magnitude such as probable great flows. stage-discharge curves and intensity of bed load transport, It has made possible to determine the stable and unstable section of the creeks. The K-KOMSUM, PRZEPŁYW and HEC-RAS software were applied. It has been ascertained that the investigated streams have a constant capacity. On the Ryta and the Porębski creeks geological structure favour natural deeping of the channels and the Rzyczanka creek does not have deformations thanks to the hydraulic structures.
