The basic geological criteria (structural-tectonic, lithofacies, geochemical and hydrogeological) enable the estimation of the prospects for the oil- and gas-bearing of territory and to determine priority directions for performing geological survey work. The complex analysis of the criteria of Devon oil and gas content in the limits of Volyno-Podillia oil- and gas-bearing region showed, that the structural-tectonic factor is the most important for total Devonian complex, and for the carbonate deposits of the Upper and carbonate-terrigenous deposits of Middle Devon — lithologic factor as well. It is determined, that the highly promising zone in the Lower Devonian deposits is within the limits of the center section of the Volyno-Podillia (northern and southern sections), for the Middle Devonian deposits — in the limits of central and northern parts on the basis of the geological criteria complex. The Upper Devonian deposits are highly promising in the limits of the central and northern parts of the region, and also in the limits of Volyno-Podillia monocline.

The interpretation of satellite remote surveys has become an integral part of the process of searching for and exploring oil and gas fields in the Naftogaz of Ukraine, National Joint-Stock Company area of activity. This work is aimed at exploration of oil and gas-bearing provinces and regions, as well as at the discovery of oil and gas promising territories, search for and detailed study of hydrocarbon traps. Combined remote sensing is based on geoinformation technologies and computer analysis of all available geological information. The method of identification of gas-bearing and non-gas-bearing areas based on the difference between phototonal characteristics of the landscape over a hydrocarbon pool and beyond its outline is developed by the Company. Such phototone difference is revealed with the aid of a multiple-zone satellite photograph made at ranges of the visible-light and infra-red spectrums.
