Pierwszym krokiem na drodze skutecznej ochrony zasobów wodnych jest rozeznanie ich wielkości, rozmieszczenia i jakości. Na początkowym etapie analizy określono zależności między ilością zrzucanych, ścieków a wartościami wskaźnika jakości wody w rzecznej stacji pomiarowej usytuowanej poniżej oczyszczalni ścieków. Model zmodyfiko- wanego równania Streeter-Phelps 'a okazal się przydatny do obliczenia stężenia zanieczyszczeń w cieku wodnym, jednak w znacznej mierze byl on zależny od ilości danych wyjściowych. Dane te to przede wszystkim dokładne stężenia zanieczyszczeń w ściekach odprowadzanych z każdego źródła w obrębie dorzecza.

Environmental risks assessment is a process to collect, organize, analyze and present scientific information to improve decision-making. When applied in a watershed context, risk assessment methods can help bring scientific data into environmental decisions. The watershed, a hydrologically bounded ecosystem, is a logical unit for environmental management. A watershed management approach helps environmental managers focus on the highest priority problems affecting surface water. Sources of pollution by discharging wastewater into water streams are the main reason of risks for watersheds. This article introduces watershed environmental risk assessment by the characterization and quantification point and non point sources of pollution in watershed.

The sphere of application of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is expanded. It is projected into natural scientific and technical disciplines, into protection of the environment, designing of constructions, through organizational, administrative, managerial spheres up to the newest areas of market research in marketing, property management and the like. In the science and research, GIS are important for collection (stocktaking), transmission, analysis and visualization of spatial data on a region. They allow using the digitalized data as a database of positionally localised data for creation and administration of the information systems on the region, for spatial analyses and modelling and creation of cartographic presentations. The aim of this paper is to give a short summary of use of GIS in civil engineering and environmental practice and application of the selected programme with graphical interpretation for solution of tasks of revitalization of rivers.

In the last time is waste water treatment very developing branch. Typical is natural biological waste water treatment with plants so-called root waste water treatment plant. Some species of wetland plants assist in purification process and at removing nutrients from water. This method is suitable for small producer of wastewater, for their purification and final purification. Wetlands act as a purification process to clean organic materials, chemicals and other pollutants from ground and surface water.

To solve environmental problems like a treatment and protection of waters it is necessary to determine the kind and quantity of pollutants in waters. For environment protection are used various economic tools. The significance of economic tools in the period of transition to the market economy is gradually growing, and these tools are not replacable. Without understanding the function, position and signigicance of economic tools it is not possible to archieve the objectives of environmental policy in an effective and purposefully way. Payments for dreainage of wastewaters to surface waters are aimed at effective use of water sources and protection of both surface and underground waters against pollution with wastewaters. The payments also represent a certain contribution of water users for reimbursement of the cost related to administration of water streams and water management works. They represent the income of the State Fund of the Environment of the Slovak Republic. It follows from analyses of management of the State Fund of the Environment that demands exceed each year the disposable sources of the fund.
