The article describes tests of steel subjected to cutting with laser, plasma and abrasive waterjet. The research discussed in the article also involved microstructure observation and changes in hardness after cutting are as well as the assessment of surface quality based on measurements of surface parameters.

The article presents welding techniques developed in the 1930s, giving rise to modern methods of gas-shielded welding, i.e. reducing gas-shielded (methanol or hydrogen vapour), arc-hydrogen welding and arc-gas welding. The above-named methods have contributed to presently applied gas-shielded welding techniques.

Przedstawiono techniki opracowane w latach trzydziestych XX wieku, które dały początek współczesnym metodom spawania w osłonie gazów. Było to spawanie w osłonie gazów redukujących (par metanolu lub wodoru), łukowo-wodorowe oraz elektryczno-gazowe. Metody te przyczyniły się do powstania obecnie stosowanych technik spawania w osłonie gazów.

The article discusses the development of inert gas-shielded welding using a non-consumable electrode (TIG welding), outlines the history of shielding gases and tungsten electrodes, presents the primary accomplishments and patents related to the evolution of the TIG method worldwide and describes the first welding equipment produced in Poland and the attempted use of the TIG method.

Nakreślono historię odkrycia gazów osłonowych oraz elektrod wolframowych, a następnie podano główne osiągnięcia i patenty związane z ewolucją metody TIG na świecie. Przedstawiono również pierwsze urządzenia do spawania produkowane w Polsce oraz próby zastosowania tej metody.
