Content available remote Basic mechanisms of Brownian string analysis and manipulation
EN
The paper presents the possibilities of using Brownian Strings as an example of Active Contour Model for linguistic description of objects in an image. Having only a notation composed of a combination of characters RULD we can calculate the statistics of the object, such as its surface area, width and height, centroid, and even image moments. The part is thoroughly discussed. The requirements for a combination of characters RULD to be called a Brownian contour are also presented and analysed carefully.

EN
Adaprive Kuwahara filter produces very interesting results and significantly improves the efficiency and performance of the original algorithmin the context of noise reduction without blurring the edges. This document contains the experimental and theoretical comparison of the computational complexity of the modified algorithm and the consideration of optimization methods.

A subject of this work is group of organic compounds known as molecular switches. Molecular switches are described as chemical compounds which molecules have at least two thermodynamically stable states. Conversion between these states is reversible and may be induced by such factors as change of the temperature or flow of the electric current or irradiation of the molecule with the light of particular wavelength [1]. Especially interesting are photochromic molecular switches. In this group the conversion is triggered by irradiation with a light of a particular wavelength [2]. Because of its unique properties, this type of compounds is extensively studied by the scientists, who investigate their photochromic properties as ways of using them in coordination with lanthanide metals and construction of novel molecular materials [3]. Especially interesting group of photochromic molecular switches is class named diarylethenes. This type of compounds after irradiation with UV light undergo cyclization, which is reversible under light of the visible spectrum (Figure 1). The other important group of photochromic molecular switches is class of compounds possessing in their structure chiroptic unit. The irradiation of the molecule with left- and right-handed circularly polarized light leads to change of the absolute configuration (Fig. 8) [1]. This type of switches may be used in construction of synthetic molecular motors which is widely studied subject nowadays [1]. The other groups of molecular switches are host- guest molecular switches and mechanically- interlocked molecular switches. In the first mentioned before group the bistable states differ in their affinity for guests (Fig. 15) [14]. The second one is based on the group of compounds named catenanes and rotaxanes. They can be described as two chemical individuals, mechanically interlocked in each other, which are not connected with chemical bonds (Fig. 19). This kind of molecular switches are used in construction of the logic gates [1].

This paper presents a concept of parallel programming in the context of image analysis and processing algorithms. It demonstrates an exact implementation of the issue of image filtration using the Microsoft .NET framework and the C# language. All technical aspects were subject to analysis. Presented are both theoretical considerations and nuances of implementation. An experiment was also conducted which consisted in the creation of an appropriate program to demonstrate an example noise filter and the recording of performance time in the case of synchronous and parallel execution. The solution analysis was tested on a typical, average laptop and a server with high computing power. The results unanimously show that applying parallel algorithms can significantly improve the effectiveness of the hardware used.

Content available remote Invariant Levenstein Distance as an example of the Hausdorff Distance
EN
The properties and applications of chain codes are studied around the world for many years. One of the most important uses is the ability to use them (chain codes) to describe objects contours and therefore for the comparison of objects. In previous work author presented Levenstein distance modification which allows to compare Brownian strings. In this paper, author focuses on expanding studies on developed distance and confirmation that the obtained measure is truly the mathematical metric.

Content available remote Invariant Levenstein Distance for Comparison of Brownian Strings
EN
The paper describes a new way of comparing Brownian contours. The Brownian strings, one of the main chain symbolic structures, are an image segmentation technique where a stochastically deformable contour fits around an object. In this technique the chain code can be interpreted as a simple method for linguistic description of the object. The Levenstein distance, which is one of the known textual strings comparison method, was generalised in a way that it is able to become insensitive to rotation and mirror reflection of compared shapes.
