Content available Modular structure devices for furniture testing
EN
This article presents a modular device for horizontal and vertical pressure and impact testing that can be used for the construction of many devices for furniture testing, and it has been developed in the Strategic Program carried out as part of the Operational Program–Innovative Economy [1]. Based on these modules, two devices were constructed: one for testing impact resistance of furniture (tables, chairs, baby cots), and the other is for testing office chair seats and for testing rotation on swivel chairs. The article emphasises the measurement and control system solutions based on modern PLC controllers. The constructed measurement and control system allows easier use of the devices and provides additional information about the functioning of devices that have not been registered before, such as the following: vibration level, working time of various units, and statistics for the element studied. Additionally, the article presents solutions for the operator’s control panel supporting machine operation.

Content available Furniture impact resistance testing device
EN
The article presents the design of an innovative MU-M/D device for testing furniture horizontal impact resistance. It is a development and adaptation to consumers' needs of the standardised device used for executing horizontal impacts, designed within a Strategic Programme task titled: „Testing and certification devices in furniture and construction materials industries”. During the construction phase of the device, a positively verified author's original concept of designing testing equipment, along with construction modules, was implemented. The designed modules enable the implementation of testing equipment covering approx. 90% of the furniture testing regulations. A concept of designing the measurement-control system using a PLC controller has also been validated. The testing of the prototype was conducted.

W artykule przedstawiono konstrukcję innowacyjnego urządzenia do badania udarności mebli typ MU-M/D na uderzenia poziome. Jest ono rozwinięciem i dostosowaniem do wymagań odbiorcy modelowego urządzania do realizacji uderzeń poziomych wykonanego w ramach Programu Strategicznego zadania pt. „Urządzenia do badań testowych i certyfikacyjnych w przemyśle meblarskim i materiałów budowlanych”.

Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) is a relatively new, promising technique for breast cancer diagnostics. A few series of images of the same body region are rapidly acquired before, during and after injection of paramagnetic contrast agent. Propagation of the contrast agent causes modification of MR signal over time. Its analysis provides information on tissue properties, including tumour status, that is not available with the regular MRI. Unintentional patient's movements during the examination result with incorrect alignment of the consecutive image series. Their analysis is then difficult, inaccurate or even impossible. The purpose of this work is to design a registration scheme that could be applied to solve the problem in a routine manner, in standard hospital conditions. The proposed registration framework, composed of B-spline transformation, mean squares metric and LBFGSB optimizer, is able to produce satisfactory results within reasonable time.

Content available The strategy for telemedicine in Lublin province
EN
Main role of this article is presentation, in a very short way, most important results of over two years of work board of experts from two universities, two clinical hospitals, city hall and also medical software and hardware suppliers. As a main purpose of strategy improvement of health care level in region was set. This aim will be achieved by telemedical infrastructure development, creation and implementation of procedures and instant training of staff. Strategy is focused on three main aspects. First one groups medical projects, second infrastructure project and third one is regional centre of coordination. In medical area proposed changes are mainly focused on telemedical support for emergency services, remote medical consultations and complex home monitoring of patients. Main solution for infrastructure assumes creation of integrated information system for hospitals and emergency units. I this part of the strategy selection of the proper standards for data storing and exchange. Probably one of the best choices is OpenEHR. Last part is centre of cooperation which consists of coordination centre of telemedical services, telemedical projects management unit, and training facility.

Content available Brain atrophy progress detection in MR images
EN
Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and other dementive diseases currently pose an important social problem. High brain atrophy level is one of the most important symptoms of these disorders, but it also may result from normal ageing processes. The purpose of the presented research is to design methods that support detection of dementia symptoms in radiological images. The proposed framework consists of image registration procedure, brain extraction and tissue segmentation and the exact analysis of image series (fractal and volumetric properties).

Content available Image transmission system for radiotherapy planning
EN
In this paper we present a project developed in our University in order to provide Lublin hospitals with efficient software tools for 3D medical image processing and transmission. The system covers the entire image flowpath in the Diagnostic Radiology Department (i.e. image acquisition, processing, archiving, long term storage) and allows transmission of medical images through the Metropolitan Area Network. About 22000 CT examinations have been archived using our system. Over 300 special examinations for radiotherapy planning have been sent to the Lublin's Oncology Centre.

Teleradiology is the most widely practised form of telemedicine and the necessary equipment is readily available. Dosimetrists, physicists and physicians rely heavily upon digital imaging modalities in their daily work. In the current healthcare marketplace, radiotherapy treatment planning is a field that really hinges upon digital medical imaging. The limiting technical factor is often the communication links between the two sides. As a consequence, the development of network-based radiotherapy image communication may yield a significant impact on the clinical operation of such centres. This paper describes the design and implementation of a Lublin teleradiology system to facilitate access to CT images at County Hospital and data transfer using metropolitan-area-network to Oncology Center for radiotherapy. Our system is successfully working since March 2000.

One of the motives for putting in a picture archiving and communication system (PACS) is to improve efficiency and hence enhance the competitive strength of the radiology department. Department of Radiological Diagnostic at Lublin Count Hospital has been developing a hospital archiving and communication system since 1997. A personal computer-based environment was implemented to reduce costs (only $800 for each view station) and take advantage of distributed system technique. One of the critical points of a full PACS is the accessibility of images outside the radiology department. Image viewer is an attempt to solve this problem by using the ubiquitous PC as a PACS terminal. By designing an appropriate tool for displaying and manipulating medical images and linking them to existing WWW browsers, it is possible to use the existing Web for communicating and remote consultations of medical images.
