The Influence of Stand Structure on European Yew Taxus baccata Populations in Its Natural Habitats in Central Poland

Taxus baccata is a rare species throughout its entire natural range and is often categorized as nationally threatened in countries where it occurs. In Poland yew is under protection and almost all sites with yew occurrences are subject to reserve protection. The aim of the study was to answer the following questions: What is the tree diameter structure of stands in three yew reserves? What is the stand biodiversity of three yew reserves in central Poland? How does the stand species composition influence natural regeneration of yew? What shall be done in the future to protect yew in its natural habitats? The study was conducted in three yew reserves in central Poland. Based on a detailed research on 30 circular sample plots established in each reserve we found high stand diversity in all investigated areas. Shannon-Weiner index (H´) was high in general and ranged from 1.50 to 1.69, and the Shannon's index of evenness (E) ranged from 0.51 to 0.64. The diameter structure of two studied reserves was similar to natural multi-layered stand structure. The number of yew trees and their vitality was low. The species diversity of natural regeneration in all reserves was very high. However, the quantity and quality of yew regeneration in multi-layered diameter structure was significantly lower than in one-layered stand structure. To protect yew, appropriate conservation measures should be undertaken, including silvicultural treatments for in situ species conservation. We found that passive conservation is an inappropriate strategy for yew because of its weak competitiveness ability. We recommend active conservation approach, including silvicultural treatments. i.e. cutting broadleaved trees in places where the basal area is the highest, removing some trees in the upper layer of stand which compete with yews. Individual protection of yew seedlings and saplings is also necessary because of damages caused by herbivores.

Mobbing i dyskryminacja to słowa, które wzbudzają coraz więcej kontrowersji ze względu na powszechność występowania we współczesnych przedsiębiorstwach. Zjawiska te odnoszą się do stosunków międzyludzkich, a szczególnie interakcji prowadzących do wielopostaciowych konfliktów. Kończą się one zazwyczaj szykanowaniem, poniżaniem, jednej ze stron, co wywiera destrukcyjny wpływa na jej psychikę i osobowość. Ofiara godzi się jednak na wszystko, gdyż zdaje sobie sprawę z niestabilnej sytuacji na rynku pracy. Bezsprzecznie mają one także znaczenie dla funkcjonowania organizacji, ponieważ „infekują” cały zespół pracowniczy. Mobbing wymaga stałego poznawania, monitorowania, jak i wdrażania nowych rozwiązań profilaktycznych. Celem artykułu jest próba identyfikacji rozmiaru występowania zjawiska, sektorów najwyższego ryzyka i rodzajów nieetycznych zachowań. Oprócz tego ukazany został problem braku świadomości społeczeństwa oraz bierności kadry kierowniczej, która często nie zdaje sobie sprawy z zagrożeń jakie płyną z terroru psychologicznego. Na potrzeby artykułu została przeprowadzona ankieta, której zadaniem było sprawdzenie wiedzy na temat problemu jakim jest przemoc psychiczna w miejscu pracy.

Mobbing and discrimination are words, which compel controversies by virtue of commonness assert itself in contemporary enterprises. These phenomenons refer to the human relations, particularly interactions will lead to multiform conflicts. They are usually ending by harassing, degrading one of the side, what is exerting destructive influences on her psyche and personality. However, the victim agrees on everything, because realizes from the unstable situation on the market of the work. Unquestionably, they also have some consequences for functioning of the organization, because they "are infecting" the whole employee team. The mobbing requires permanent getting to know, monitoring, as well as implementing preventive new solutions. The aim of this article is trying identification to the scope of appearing this phenomenon, sectors of the highest risk and types of unethical behaviours. Part from that, a problem of the lack of the awareness of the society and passivities of the senior staff, who often don’t realize threats which are making psychological terror on-the-job. For the purpose of the article was carring out a survey, whose task was to test the knowledge about the psychological violence in workplace.

Informacje o przebiegu rzeźby terenu, szczególnie na obszarach podlegających przekształceniom wskutek szeroko pojętej działalności górniczej, umożliwiają przestrzenne monitorowanie procesów i zjawisk związanych z deformacjami powierzchni. W artykule opisano generowanie oraz wynikające z tego procesu dokładności Numerycznego Modelu Terenu, stanowiącego jedną z metod graficznego opracowania pomiaru. Jako dane źródłowe do tworzenia NMT wykorzystano wyniki pomiaru GPS-RTK otrzymane z kilku niezależnych serii obserwacyjnych. Zrealizowano je w odpowiednio dobranym do tego celu testowym obszarze badań, charakteryzującym się zróżnicowaną morfologią i zagospodarowaniem.

Data on land relief, particularly in areas which undergo transformations due to the broadly-defined mining activities, enables the spatial monitoring of processes and phenomena connected with surface deformations. This paper presents the development and accuracy of the Digital Terrain Model (DTM), one of the methods of graphical measurements preparation. The results of GPS-RTK measurements obtained from several independent series of observations were used as the source data for DTM preparation. They were implemented in a carefully selected research area with diverse morphology and land development.

Przedstawiono przykładową analizę termowizyjną budynku, którą warto prowadzić przed podjęciem zabiegów docieplania. Badania pozwalają na dość dokładną analizę stanu przegród budowlanych i na jej podstawie można wskazać właściwy kierunek termomodernizacji. Zabiegi te pozwolą na wprowadzeniu w budynku zmian, które spowodują zmniejszenie zużycia energii oraz spowodują obniżenie kosztów eksploatacyjnych dla budynku.

The article includes thermovisional analysis performed for building which would be useful before thermo-modernization. By using this analysis, we can show a good direct of thermo-modernization. The purpose of this research was to indicate potential structural or performance defects which shouldn't be omitted in thermo-modernization. If we show a good direct of thermo-modenization, we will decrease energy consumption for building.

The signal averaged P-wave ECG for measurement of atrial electrical instability in patients with hypertension and concentric left ventricular hypertrophy

Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in course of the systemic hypertension is found as independent risk factor for arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. The aim of our study was to evaluate signal averaged ECG of the P-wave (SAP ECG) as a tool to measure the atrial electrical instability in hypertensive patients (pts) with concentric LVH. Study group included 39 pts with mild to moderate primary hypertension. Patients were divided into two group: with concentric LVH and without LVH; LVH was diagnosed by echocardiography (ECHO). By ECHO there were additionally measured the internal end-diastolic diameters and areas of left and right atria (LA, RA, LAar, RAar). From SAP ECG the P duration (hfP), the root-mean-square of the last 20 msec of the averaged and filtered atrial signal (RMS2o) were calculated. By the 12-lead ECG the P duration (Pd) was calculated. Supraventricular arrhythmias were recorded during 24-hour ambulatory ECG monitoring. Results: Duration of hfP was significantly longer in pts with than without LVH (121.8+/-13.0 vs 112.8+/-8.4 msec; p < 0.02). RMS20 was similar in both groups. Pd from standard ECG was increased (114+/-13 vs 107+/-7 msec; p < 0.05) in pts with than without LVH. Supraventricular arrhythmia occurred more frequent in pts with LVH. Conclusion: SAP ECG in hypertensive pts with concentric LVH may be a good tool to evaluate atrial electrical instability.

Celem badań była ocena możliwości wykorzystania uśrednionego EKG załamka P dla pomiaru przedsionkowej niestabilności elektrycznej u chorych z nadciśnieniem i przerostem lewej komory. Przebadano 39 chorych z nadciśnieniem, których podzielono na dwie grupy: z przerostem lewej komory i bez przerostu. Na podstawie uśrednionego i filtrowanego przedsionkowego sygnału EKG obliczono długość załamka P oraz wartość skuteczną(RMS2o) sygnału w końcowych 20 ms. Dla porównania długość załamka P wyznaczono również z 12-kanałowego standardowego EKG. Stwierdzono znamiennie (p < 0,02) większą długość załamka P u chorych z przerostem lewej komory (121,8+/-13,0 ms) w stosunku do chorych bez przerostu (112,8+/-8,4 ms). Wartość skuteczna RMS2o była w obu grupach zbliżona. Długość załamka P wyznaczona z 12-odprowadzeniowego EKG była również znamiennie (p < 0,05) dłuższa u chorych z przerostem (114+/-13 ms) w porównaniu z chorymi bez przerostu (107+/-7 ms). Wyniki badań potwierdzają możliwość wykorzystania uśrednionego sygnału EKG załamka P do oceny przedsionkowej niestabilności elektrycznej.
