In the article the characteristics of soil investigation methods within the years 2007-2016 were presented, taking engineering geological reports into consideration. The set of 485 engineering geological reports, that were prepared for road design and construction purposes, was analyzed. The authors looked into both types of investigation methods and the way of presenting the results. The percentage of particular field and laboratory test methods was shown as well as some conclusions and observations regarding the soil recognition were articulated. The study is a part of a larger project "Modern methods of identifying the soilfor road construction” co-financed by the National Research and Development Centre (NCBiR) and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA).

Before Eurocode 7 was implemented (a package of European standards connected with geotechnical design) hydrogeological observations were not very reliable as they were made in a borehole without casing during geotechnical drillings. Weak recognition was connected mainly with piezometric level of deeper aquifers, groundwater level fluctuations in time and permeability characteristic of the layer. The implementation of Eurocode 7 is a huge step towards the quality of hydrogeological observations in geotechnical design especially with regard to the safety of the object during construction and maintenance. In the article the main requirements of Eurocode 7 were presented as well as the possibilities of hydrogeological data acquisition from various databases and the examples of regional hydrogeological analyses for groundwater fluctuations prediction.

The paper presents selected issues concerning evaluation of engineering- geological and geotechnical conditions according to the Geological and Mining Law as well as to the Construction Law. Role of reporting personnel and value of ground studies was discussed in relation to building process. Practical knowledge concerning administrative process and interpretations of law on the subject of approving geological investigation projects and engineering-geological reports were discussed.

In the article legal proceeding for design and implementation of ground source heat exchangers for low temperature geothermal systems were presented and the role of geological authorities in the process was emphasized. The article was focused only on closed loop systems as such are the most popular systems in Poland. The main sources of geological information necessary for the design of ground source heat exchangers were presented. The geological information sources dedicated for low temperature geothermal energy systems (heat pumps) such as GIS geothermal potential maps were identified.

The landslide in the southern part of the western escarpment of the "Piaseczno" water reservoir was activated on 11th May 2011. The reservoir is a former open-cast sulphur mine and the landslide occurred in its internal dump. The volume of moved soil was estimated at 1 mln m3. The paper presents the development of the landslide that firstly occurred in the lower part of the escarpment and next moved to the upper parts far from the reservoir's boundaries. The landslide movement can be described as a regressive flow of saturated soil mass. The paper also discusses the research on the subject of the landslides and the stability analyses, as well as the influence of various factors.

The article presents some cartographic studies of urban aras where anthropogenic soils occur. Methods of presenting the anthropogenic soils on maps were described, including the forms of their occurrence and thickness. It was indicated that an engineering geological map providing information on soil usefulness (illustrating the recommended ways of economic planning) and a risk map of investment showing a good preparation of a land development plan should be created.

A characteristic of properties of the Tertiary beidellit clays present in the overburden of the Bełchatów Open cast mine is presented in this paper. These clays are applied in construction of landfills, primary as mineral liners. Selection of an apprioriate clay and construction of a landfill is a responsible task, requiring cooperation between designers, geotechnicians, mine workers and contractors. Landfills with beidellit clay seals meet all necessary requirements.

EN
In this paper, we present problems related to the construction of hazardous waste landfill in Tarnowskie Góry (Upper Silesia, Poland). Production lasting for several decades and lack of proper waste management resulted in pollution of underground water and soil in the vicinity of the Chemical Plant in Tarnowskie Góry. The scale of potential hazard is enormous. Continuous leaking of highly soluble compounds of barium and boron takes place from unsecured disposal pits. This pollution reaches the major groundwater basin - MGB Gliwice 330. It has been decided that this problem of Tarnowskie Góry will be solved by the construction of a disposal landfill, witch will accommodate all waste. Five sectors are planned; their total area will be 16 ha. Until 2002, first sector (KI) has been completed and is already in use.
