W procesie poznania naukowego istotnym zagadnieniem jest sprawna umiejętność budowy obszaru, w którym będziemy się poruszali w trakcie realizowanych zadań badawczych. Dlatego też, po zmianach w klasyfikacji nauk wprowadzonych Uchwałą Centralnej Komisji do Spraw Stopni i Tytułów z dnia 28 stycznia 2011 r. zmieniającą uchwałę w sprawie określenia dziedzin nauki i dziedzin sztuki oraz dyscyplin naukowych i artystycznych (M.P. 2011 Nr 14, poz. 149) zachodzi potrzeba przeprowadzenia dyskusji na temat określenia obszarów grupy nauk wchodzących do nowo powołanych dyscyplin naukowych i wyodrębnienia w nich podstawowych specjalności naukowych. W związku z powyższym autor spróbował wyodrębnić jedną ze specjalności w obszarze dyscypliny naukowej – nauki o bezpieczeństwie. Obiektem dywagacji jest obszar zarządzania kryzysowego – celem jest pokazanie, że spełnia on wymagania niezbędne do uznania jako specjalność naukowa w grupie nauk o bezpieczeństwie.

In a proces of scientific knowledge acquisition it is very important to properly establish the area of subject studies allowing for adequate realisation of the researches within a given field. That is why in Poland, after the changes in qualification of academic areas introduced with the Resolution of the Central Commission for the Titles and Academic Degrees from the 28th of January 2011, changing the resolution on establishing of academic and artistic subjects, and academic and artistic disciplines (M.P 2011 nr 14 pos. 149) there is a need of discussion on the issue, with respect to security studies. The need applies to groups of subjects withing the newly established disciplines, and to extraction out of it essential academic specialties. In view of this, the author of article decides to present a possible way of approaching the issue in reference to one of the disciplins – the security studies. The subject of discussion refers to the field of crisis management, with the aim of proving that its subject area fits into general criterias of recognition of it, as a specialty field within a group of security studies.

The author discusses the idea of commanding as a process and characterizes its basic forms occurring in command and staff work as command, management and control. The author defines command as the process of planning, organizing, motivating and checking the activities of military organization’s members and using all its other resources to achieve planned goals. However, the management in military structures is treated as a managerial activity that includes establishing goals, accomplishing them within commands’ formalized organizational structures or command system elements such as communication systems and networks, IT systems and networks and, most of all, supporting accomplishing tasks by staffs and their organizational cells in the process of forces’ command. Commanding is defined as a basic form of leading forces by their commanders, based on the authority to complex shaping of all combat readiness elements in reference to directly and indirectly subordinated soldiers, consequently, to their comprehensive preparation to perform tasks in time of peace, crisis and war. This power is wielded by commanders in relation to all soldiers subordinated to them and other personnel who hold commanding positions (e.g. chief of board, department, division, section), but only in relation to soldiers in directly subordinated to them organizational units (board, department, division, section) on a given level of command. Control in military structures comprises all intentional interacting of one element, set or technical system onto another one in order to achieve such changes of the process course taking place in the controlled object or state of the controlled set (system) in a given moment which is considered expected. In general, the article is an attempt to make order in the contents range of the mentioned notions to be adopted in military terminology.
