Composites are used in a wide variety of markets, including the aerospace, architecture, automotive and military sectors. Along with the increased use of composites, multiple non-destructive testing (NDT) methods have been further developed specifically for inspecting them. Among them, one can single out ultrasonic phased arrays. Research described in this article focuses on the use of ultrasonic PAs for production flaw investigations into an aileron. The examined part was made of up to 16 layers of BAER 3068 epoxy carbon prepreg. The investigation was carried out by using the tap test, conventional ultrasonic measurement and phased array methods. The phased array method allowed us to thoroughly check the affected specimen and confirm the presence of a production flaw in the form of epoxy resin build-up. The results show how effective this method can be and emphasize its advantages over traditional ultrasonic inspections.

Aircraft wing design processes should comprise specific analyses oriented towards aeroelasticity, which is one of the essential factors determining flight envelope boundaries. For such cases, static or dynamic aeroelastic phenomena can be simulated using CFD simulation software. ANSYS software offers the fluid structure interaction (FSI) method for solving this multiphysics problem.

In the article are presented chosen research results of influence of local defects in toothed gear on the vibroacoustic signal. Vibroacoustic methods of diagnostics are perfectly suitable to the task of monitoring the status of devices during their normal work. Monitoring of vibrations during operation is particular importance for industrial toothed gear as well gears working in the power transmission systems of aircrafts. Taken into account negative consequences of damages in toothed gears, determination of changes in vibroacoustic signal can prevent possible failures, and is therefore very important. Researches were performed with use residual signals created from synchronously averaged time signals generated by identified dynamic model of toothed gear working in circulating power system. Superior purpose of work is development of effectively methods of damage detection, especially in its early stages, what has great importance during operating aircrafts. The study shows that local damage of the wheels affects changes in the frequency distribution of vibroacoustic signals energy. The degree of damage significantly impacts to the possibility of detecting it on the basis of time signals analyses.

Bezpieczeństwo lotów nie jest ani celem, ani też zadaniem lotnictwa. Bezpieczeństwo lotów to stan, w którym realizowane są wszystkie założone cele, z jednoczesną kontrolą potencjalnych zagrożeń, mogących zakłócić przebieg ich realizacji. Rola „czynnika ludzkiego” w systemie bezpieczeństwa lotnictwa była znana od dawna. Była też ona przedmiotem badań naukowych w wielu ośrodkach, ale dopiero pod koniec XX wieku badaniom tym nadano właściwą rangę. Dzisiaj możemy uznać, że „czynnik ludzki” został „zinstytucjonalizowany”.

It was defined human factor in the contest of the aviation safety in the article. Differences and similarities of the meaning of ergonomic and human factor were point out as well. The influence of human factor on the aviation safety level was indicated by taking into consideration analysis result form aviation accidents both in military and civilian aviation in Poland. The statistics of US civilian aviation were taken into consideration for comparison. Possible prevention steps aimed at improving the level of flight safety in the areas related to the human factor were indicated. In the last part of the article it was defined elements which have vital role for conducting of the aviation task by the pilot on the desired safety level.

The passenger and aircraft crew safety is the major requirement of the aircraft operation. Its continuous enhancement is the major task not only for design bureaus, aircraft manufacturers, services, but is also the subject of training and educational activities as well. Presented article focuses on analysis of needs and methods application, regarding risk mitigation in aircraft operation, considering aviation engineering training and education in compliance with EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) Module 12, Part 66 - titled as “Helicopter aerodynamics, structure and systems”. Topicality of the contribution results from necessity of implementation educational technology into university education as well as individual preparation of aircraft maintenance staff. The contribution has two parts – paper and multimedia form. Paper form is analysis of the connection among safety, education and ergatic system (machine-man-environment). Multimedia form consists of Module 12 with its text, figures, videos, photos and interactive tests.

Bezpieczeństwo pasażera oraz personelu kabinowego jest głównym wymaganiem w obsłudze statku powietrznego. Ciągłe zwiększanie bezpieczeństwa jest nie tylko zadaniem biur projektowych, producentów samolotów, sektora usługowego ale również przedmiotem szkoleń i edukacji. Poniższy artykuł koncentruje się na analizie potrzeb i metod związanych ze zmniejszaniem ryzyka w obsłudze statku powietrznego, szkoleń dotyczących inżynierii awiacji oraz edukacji w ramach EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) Module 12, Part 66 - titled as “Helicopter aerodynamics, structure and systems” – moduł 12, część 66 zatytułowana „ Aerodynamika, struktura i systemy helikoptera”. Tematyka tej pracy wynika z potrzeby wdrożenia technologii edukacyjnej do programu edukacyjnego uniwersytetów, a także indywidualnego przygotowania służb utrzymania danego statku powietrznego. Praca składa się z dwóch części – papierowej i multimedialnej. Część papierowa stanowi analizę powiązań pomiędzy bezpieczeństwem, edukacją oraz systemem maszyna-człowiek-środowisko. Część multimedialna składa się z Modułu 12 z tekstem, danymi liczbowymi, video, zdjęciami oraz testami interaktywnymi.

The part of the board aircraft equipment contains the great amount of complex subsystems which are mutually connected and controlled by the airplane crew. So a pilot works in such conditions when he must receive and work out a lot of information/data from more panel and outer sources. This information is later used to control the airplane and to fulfill the flight missions. The development in the sphere of solving the described problems leads to the usage of elements and methods of artificial intelligence. One of possible approaches is an application of panel expert systems.

Traditionally helicopter gearbox failure analysis has been achieved in a number of ways, including the recording of the oil temperature and oil pressure of critical components within the transmission system. Vibration monitoring techniques provide a sufficient level of detail such that all drive train components can be monitored throughout flight. Each indicator relates to specific faults, such as shaft misalignment, gear tooth cracking, bearing inner-race damage, and lubrication problems.
