Obszar średniowiecznego rynku w Chojnie w świetle najnowszych badań

Przedmiotem artykułu są wyniki badań archeologicznych i architektonicznych, przeprowadzonych jesienią 2022 r., które rzucają nowe światło na rozwój przestrzenny i charakter układu urbanistycznego Chojny w województwie zachodniopomorskim. Celem badań było ustalenie obrysu zabudowy istniejącej wzdłuż południowo-wschodniej pierzei placu rynkowego do 1945 r. oraz określenie zakresu i stanu zachowania jej reliktów podziemnych w związku z koniecznością wskazania zakresu bezwzględnej ochrony i możliwości ich wykorzystania w przypadku nowego zagospodarowania przedmiotowej przestrzeni. Badania przeprowadzono w oparciu o wykopy sondażowe i analizę odkrytych w nich fragmentów ścian piwnicznych i fundamentowych. Najważniejszym wynikiem badań poza pozytywną weryfikacją przedwojennego układu parcelacji na danym obszarze jest ustalony brak reliktów zabudowy średniowiecznej. Powyższe odkrycie pozwala na postawienie tezy dotyczącej pierwotnego kształtu i skali placu targowego w średniowiecznej Chojnie.

This paper presents the results of an archaeological and architectural investigation, conducted in autumn 2022, which sheds new light on the spatial development and character of the urban layout of Chojna in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The research aimed to determine the outline of the buildings existing along the south-eastern frontage of the market square until 1945 and to determine the scope and state of preservation of its underground relics in connection with the need to indicate the scope of absolute protection and the possibility of their use in the event of a new development of the area in question. The research was based on survey excavations and analysis of fragments of basement and foundation walls discovered there. The most important result of the research, apart from the positive verification of the pre-war parcellation system in a given area, is the established lack of relics of medieval buildings. This discovery allows us to put forward a hypothesis regarding the original shape and scale of the market square in medieval Chojna.

The article presents the process of historical reconstruction and modern revalorization of two most important Szczecin monuments: the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle and the Cathedral of St. James the Apostle. In this context, an evolution of views regarding the form in which they will be passed on to future generations is shown.

W artykule przedstawiono proces historycznej odbudowy oraz współczesnej rewaloryzacji dwóch najważniejszych szczecińskich zabytków: Zamku Książąt Pomorskich oraz Katedry pw. Św. Jakuba Apostoła. W tym kontekście ukazano ewolucję poglądów dotyczących formy zachowania tych obiektów dla przyszłych pokoleń.

This article is an attempt to pay attention to the rich heritage of the capital of Western Pomerania and to contribute to the discussion on the need to raise the monument’s history of its most valuable elements. The cultural landscape of Szczecin, which is a multicultural heritage of the historic Pomerania cultural area, is, by virtue of its origin, a carrier of original, authentic values that are absent in other Polish cities and regions. According to the authors it is possible to distinguish of three areas, that together reflect the groundbreaking process of spatial development in the history of the city, having authenticity and originality in the country. The first part of the entry should include the historic urban layout of Szczecin’s Śródmieście (Downtown) at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth century with the form of star and triangular development quarters, as well as urban and architectural and landscape complexes, which are important components of it: Wały Chrobrego (Hakenterrasse), Jasne Błonia (Quistorpaue) and Cmentarz Centralny (Hauptfriedhof). The spatial and aesthetic qualities, the historical significance and the uniqueness of the particular elements of the aforementioned teams predestine them in our opinion to be included in the list of Historical Monuments.
