The Natural Stone Market in the Context of Rapid Construction Development and Protection Areas of Major Groundwater Reservoirs (GZWP)

Over the last few years, the demand for stone raw materials has increased significantly. The stone industry is an unusual sector that combines domestic stone extraction with the global market. The stone market supported by the achievements of new technologies provides a processed product, which in consequence create great potential for development of this sector. What is more an intensification of the demand effect on raw stones can be initiated by the construction industry, which is one of the basic drivers of the country's economy. In this paper there are presented conclusions from an analysis of the local and global stone market. What is more, authors present the results of analysis the mining potential of dimension and crushed stones deposits occurring in Poland in the context of limited exploitation possibilities due to selected protection areas such as areas of Major Groundwater Reservoirs (hereinafter: GZWP).

Precipitation is one of the main factors causing surface, linear and landslide erosion. Their influence on erosion processes is determined by such parameters as: precipitation frequency, amount, duration and intensity. These features affect the rate of infiltration and the intensity of surface runoff, and thus the occurrence, course and effectiveness of erosion processes [2, 3, 4]. The aim of research was to analyse the 40-years of rainfall measurements data from the Lubuskie Voivodeship and inspect whether occurring of heavy rains are random events or maybe indicate some long period trends. To analysis was used non-parametrical Mann Kendall test and correlation test. What is more the authors’ prepared a path of selecting the optimal dewatering system, where would be taken into consideration ground stability and changes in the rainfall trends. For this purpose, the paper contain short overview existing dewatering systems which are used to reducing risk of landslides.

The stone industry is highly specific. On the one hand, it is linked to the domestic production of dimension stone. On the other, it has ties with the global market, and these are even stronger. Supported by new technological advances, the industry is capable of supplying a remarkably processed product. This opens extensive opportunities for the building stone market to develop. The multiplier effect could be triggered by the construction industry, which is one of the key drivers of the Polish economy. Along with the “headstone production industry”, it also encourages the development of the building stone market – considered broadly, from quarrying, to processing plants, wholesale stone suppliers, to a whole group of stone fitters.

Przemysł kamieniarski jest bardzo specyficzny. Z jednej strony wiąże się to z krajową produkcją kamienia wymiarowego, z drugiej strony ma silne powiązania z rynkiem globalnym. Wspierany przez postęp technologiczny przemysł jest w stanie dostarczyć i przetworzyć produkt. Otwiera to szerokie możliwości rozwoju rynku kamienia. Efekt zwiększenia skali wywołuje przemysł budowlany, który jest jednym z kluczowych motorów polskiej gospodarki. Wraz z „przemysłem produkcji nagrobków” przemysł budowlany sprzyja rozwojowi rynku kamieni budowlanych – szeroko pojętego, od kamieniołomu, przez zakłady przetwórcze, hurtowych dostawców kamieni, po całą grupę monterów kamieni.
