Promieniowanie słoneczne stanowi podstawowy czynnik podtrzymujący życie na naszej planecie, lecz aby mogło ono pełnić tę funkcję, jego energia kierowana w stronę Ziemi nie może w całości i bezpośrednio osiągać jej powierzchni. Musi ono być filtrowane i zubażane w niektórych zakresach długości fal, co ma miejsce podczas jego przechodzenia przez warstwę atmosfery. Dalszemu ograniczeniu i modyfikacji widmowej przepuszczalności tego promieniowania służą między innymi oszklenia zawierające rodzaje szkła o odpowiednich charakterystykach optycznych w zakresie długości fal odpowiadających promieniowaniu słonecznemu.

The current trends in air quality requirements and improvement possibilities together with necessity to control and verify the limits of pollutants content in air, are presented there in this paper. The new standards of air quality, which were introduced to the Polish legislation in the recent years, are mainly included in the basic regulation, entitled "Low of Environment Protection". The important reason for changes in Polish regulations concerning to air quality was European Union membership of Poland and due to necessity for implementation of EU standards and limits for air. The novel requirements for air purity monitoring and giving information on state of natural environment are also described, together with the rules established with aim to limit air pollutants in the form of solid substances and various kinds of energy.

An account is given of the status of monitoring in a new legal system for environmental protection in Poland. The legal acts such as Environmental Protection Law, Water Law and resulting from it the Ordinance of the Ministry of Environment, which relate to the EU Water Framework Directives (2000/60/EC) were introduced to the Polish legal system. They present the principles by which state monitoring of the environment should operate in Poland and thus the source of information about water quality. The present article deals with continuation of the biological studies for monitoring rivers, including the relevance of a computer programme for this purpose. The article concludes with and assessment of how the quality of Polish rivers will be improved as a result of this legislation.
