The aim of the following paper is to present the research on strength of wood coming from the monumental building. It comprises a short form theoretical introduction on the assessment of the technical condition and the types of damage in wooden historic construction, a description of the materials used in the research, the way of conducting the laboratory strength tests and the final comparison of the literature based and experimentally obtained values of wood compressive and bending strength. The presented investigations provide a valuable source of information for the assessment of technical condition of the old wooden structures subject to legal protection and conservation.
