Welded joints are areas of increased stresses in construction. The reason for this phenomenon is associated with the nonhomogeneous mechanical, structural and geometrical properties of the weld. In the article the correlations between locally raised stresses due to real geometry and fatigue lives of non-load carrying cruciform joints made from S355J2+N steel are analysed. Stresses were computed using Finite Element Method (FEM) based on real three-dimensional weld geometry obtained by 3D scanning. The specimens were experimentally tested under cyclic push-pull loading with a zero mean value of applied force. The correlation was analysed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient and statistical hypotheses. It was shown that statistically significant correlation exists between maximum values of normal stresses and fatigue lives.

It is very common to assume that the shape of the weld is uniform over the entire length and it is not deviated from the theoretical one. This article describes methods of estimating the influence of the real shape of welded seams on the fatigue strength.

Złącza spawane ze względu na niejednorodność właściwości mechanicznych, strukturalnych oraz kształtu spoiny są w konstrukcji miejscem powodującym spiętrzanie naprężeń. Najczęściej w obliczeniach przyjmuje się, że kształt spoiny jest jednakowy na całej długości, a zarys nie odbiega od teoretycznego. W artykule przedstawiono rozkład naprężeń w spoinie wykonanej na próbkach stalowych (S355J2+N), której kształt przeniesiono do analizy metodą elementów skończonych przez skanowanie 3D. Uzyskane wyniki porównano z wynikami dla spoiny o promieniu zaokrąglenia linii wtopienia równym 1 mm.

Welded joints due to their nonhomogeneous mechanical, structural and geometrical properties are the reason for stress concentration in the construction. Generally in the calculation it is assumed that the shape of the weld is uniform over the entire length, and the outline does not deviate from the theoretical one. This article shows the distribution of stress in the weld performed on specimens made of S355J2+N steel, the shape of which was transferred to the finite element analysis by application of 3D scanning. The results were compared with those obtained from the model of the weld with welding toe equal to 1 mm.

W pracy wyznaczono rozkład naprężeń ekwiwalentnych w połączeniu spawanym na podstawie rzeczywistego odwzorowania powierzchni złącza uzyskanego dzięki skanowaniu 3D. Do badań wybrano złącze krzyżowe oraz stal S355J2+N. Rzeczywiste próbki poddano próbom cyklicznego rozciągania-ściskania o zerowej wartości średniej siły wymuszającej. Uzyskane trwałości zmęczeniowe porównano z uzyskanymi metodą elementów skończonych rozkładami naprężeń ekwiwalentnych.

The article presents the distribution of equivalent stresses in the welded joint based on a real shape of a weld received from 3D scanning process. Cross-welded joint and S355J2+N steel were chosen. The specimens were experimentally tested under cyclic push-pull loading with a zero mean value of applied force. Fatigue lives were compared with a stress distribution calculated by finite element method.

Generally, in the majority of the calculation it is assumed that the shape of the weld is uniform over the entire length and it is not deviating from the theoretical one. This article shows the distribu-tion of stress in the butt-weld made of S355J2+N steel specimens. The shape of a joint was transferred to the finite element analysis by application of 3D scanning. Selected multiaxial fatigue criteria and probability mass function were used for a description of the results. Theoretical model prepared for comparison to the scanned joints was consistent with recommendations of International Institute of Welding for the effective notch method.

The paper presents a brief review of well known calculation methods concerning the fatigue strength and fatigue life of welded joints. The review is based on recommendations given by International Institute of Wclding and current standards.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki eksperymentalnych badań zmęczeniowych krzyżowych złączy spawanych. Badane elementy obciążano jednoosiową siłą zmienną: rozciąganie-ściskanie o cyklu wahadłowym. Kształt i wymiary bada- nych próbek dobrano tak, aby możliwe było porównanie dwóchcharakterystyk zmęczeniowych typu Oan-Nf w celu określenie efektu skali. Jedną z charakterystyk otrzymano na podstawie badań własnych. Drugą charakterystykę zmęczeniową, doty- czącą elementów spawanych o kilkukrotnie większych rozmiarach, otrzymano na podstawie wyników zamieszczonych w opublikowanych pracach innych autorów. Na podstawie analiz wyznaczono parametr symulujący efekt skali.

The paper presents results of fatigue tests carried on transverse stiffener welded joints submitted to fully reverse axial loading. Based on the derived results, S-N curve was ob- tained and compared to published results for specimens differing in dimensions. Purpose of this comparison is analyzing the volume effect in fatigue of welded joints.
