Due to environmental concerns, the use of alternative fuel is rapidly expanding around the world, making it imperative to fully understand the impacts of diesel on pollutant formation. The aim of this work is to increase the engine performance with reduced emissions using diesel blends from different feed stocks and to compare that with the diesel. In the Indian context linseed can play an important role in the production of alternative fuel using diesel. The climatic and soil conditions of India are convenient for the production of linseed crop. The blend is prepared from diesel, linseed oil and Leishman‘s solution by stirring process. The performance study of a diesel engine with these diesel blends were carried out at different compression ratios and loads. The combustion performance parameters like Mechanical, Volumetric, Brake thermal efficiencies and Specific Fuel Consumption are all noted. By applying Grey Relation Analysis, the best running condition for the engine within the chosen range are decided. The sample containing 95% diesel with 3% linseed oil and 2% solution gives better performance at a compression ratio of 18 during high load conditions.

In order to increase the heat transfer and thermal performance of solar collectors, a multipurpose solar collector is designed and investigated experimentally by combining the solar water collector and solar air collector. In this design, the storage tank of the conventional solar water collector is modified as riser tubes and header and is fitted in the bottom of the solar air heater. This paper presents the study of fluid flow and heat transfer in a multipurpose solar air heater by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) which reduces time and cost. The result reveals that in the multipurpose solar air heater at load condition, for flow rate of 0.0176 m3/s m2, the maximum average thermal efficiency was 73.06% for summer and 67.15 % for winter season. In multipurpose solar air heating system, the simulated results are compared to experimental values and the deviation falls within ± 11.61% for summer season and ± 10.64% for winter season. It proves that the simulated (CFD) results falls within the acceptable limits.

Every manufacturing or production unit should concern about the quality of the product. Apart from quality, there exists other criterion, called productivity which is directly proportional to the profit level. Every manufacturing industry aims at producing a large number of products in relatively lesser time. In any machining process, it is most important to determine the optimal settings of machining parameters aiming at reduction of production costs and achieving the desired product quality. If the problem is related to a single quality attribute then it is called single objective optimization. If more than one attribute comes into consideration it is very difficult to select the optimal setting which can achieve all quality requirements simultaneously. In this work, EN-24 alloy steel work pieces were turned on Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) lathe by using Cemented carbide tool (coated). The influence of four cutting parameters, cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut, and tool nose radius on minuscule surface roughness and material removal rate (MRR) were analyzed on the basis of Response Surface Methodology approach. The experimental results were collected by following the Taguchi’s L16 mixed Orthogonal Array design.

This work reveals the burr dimensions at entry and exit of the drilled holes on copper, brass and stainless steel. Furthermore, the effect of spindle speed and feed rate on the burr dimensions are considered and reported. Burr size minimization is one of the key problems in drilling operation. The main aim of this research is evaluated the burr dimesion occurrences of drilling on conventionally drilled holes and CNC drilled holes. The burrs produced by conventional machine and CNC machine were compared and presented.

Content available remote Material Selection of Compliant Mechanism for Vibration Isolation
EN
The flexible material is always absorbing some energy and reflects it. This concept was adopted from complaint mechanism principle and it was developed with the help of topology optimization technique. An innovative idea is used these principles to create a new design to absorb the vibration in the machine shop, through an innovative design model and analysis ware discussed. This paper gives a different material selection for design of compliant mechanism and also outline about the complaint mechanisms principle and shows how it is useful in mechanical field. Recently this technique is developed with the help of advanced design and also combination of some other technique. A study has been made in this for different materials.
