The interaction of calcium, magnesium potassium and sodium cations with heparin (Hep), a highly negatively charged glycosaminoglycan, was studied by using conducting polymer (CP) films. The CP-Hep films were obtained by electrochemical deposition of poly(pyrrole) (PPy) or poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT). In order to induce magnesium or calcium sensitivity, all films were conditioned in alkaline solution containing magnesium or calcium ions, respectively. After conditioning, the potentiometric response towards calcium or magnesium ions with a close-to-Nernstian slope was observed. The calcium or magnesium sensitive CP-heparin films do not respond to Na or K ions, but the response towards Mg or Ca ions was almost identical. Adistinct difference in dynamic open-circuit response to calcium or magnesium ions was observed and its relevance to biological membrane processes is stressed. CP-heparin films can be used for testing an ion exchange as well as transport processes that occur in biological membranes.

Different methods of inducing desired cationic sensitivity of poly(pyrrole) (PPy) films doped with Metal Complexing Ligands (MCL) is presented. Selected MCLs have the structure R-(MCG-H(m)) (SO(3)H)(n), and thus contain ,,n" sulfonate groups and ,,p" metal complexing groups (-MCG-HJ responsible for forming complexes with selected cations. The latter is necessary for inducing preferred sensitivity. In the process of complex formation the protons from MCG groups are substituted by selected metal cations. Three methods of de-protonating, complex forming and inducing cationic sensitivity of PPy films are shown.

Opisane zostały różne sposoby indukowania pożądanej czułości kationowej filmów poli-pirolowych (PPy) domieszkowanych anionami organicznych kompleksonów MCL (MCL = Metal Complexing Ligand). Wybrane kompleksony MCL o budowie R-(MCG-H ) (SO(3)H)(n) zawierały ,,n" anionowych grup sulfonowych (SO,H), wykorzystywanych w procesie domieszkowania polimeru oraz „p" grup funkcyjnych (-MCG-H(m)(p) odpowie dzialnych za formowanie kompleksów z wybranymi kationami (MCG), niezbędnych do wzbudzenia pożądanej czułości kationowej. W procesie powstawania kompleksu protony grup MCG zastępowane są kationami wybranych metali. Pokazane są trzy sposoby postępowania prowadzące do deprotonacji, wytworzenia kompleksu MCL-Me i indukowania czułości kationowej filmów polypyrolowych.
