Three kinds of chemically bonded phase (CBP), C18, diol and CN, have been studied to determine their selectivity in the isolation of the 4-N, N-dimethylaminoazobenzene-4˘-sulphonyl chloride (DABS-Cl) derivatives of amino acids (AA) by solid-phase extraction (SPE) before qualitative and quantitative analysis by HPLC. This study has shown that recovery of DABS-AA from natural materials (Urtica dioica) depends on the surface properties of the adsorbent used for SPE.
