This paper is a contribution into a wider discussion about nondestructive testing in material engineering. The aim of described research is the enhancement of experimental possibilities for subsurface defects detection in materials, products and structures by using an infrared scanning detector camera in real conditions of industrial practice. It was demonstrated that such type of high quality infrared imagers, supported by pulsed thermography with external thermal stimulation, powerful personal computer and several simple image-processing procedures, could serve as a useful tool for contactless detection of various types hidden flaws in different materials.
