Accurate and timely flash floods forecasting, especially, in ungauged and poorly gauged basins, is one of the most important and challenging problems to be solved by the international hydrological community. In changing climate and variable anthropogenic impact on river basins, as well as due to low density of surface hydrometeorological network, flash flood forecasting based on “traditional” physically based, or conceptual, or statistical hydrological models often becomes inefficient. Unfortunately, most of river basins in Russia are poorly gauged or ungauged; besides, lack of hydrogeological data is quite typical. However, the developing economy and population safety necessitate issuing warnings based on reliable forecasts. For this purpose, a new hydrological model, MLCM3 (Multi-Layer Conceptual Model, 3rd generation) has been developed in the Russian State Hydrometeorological University. The model showed good results in more than 50 tested basins.

The article presents the methods and results of electron microscopic studies of microstructure and pore space anisotropy performed on full-size carbonate rock samples. They were subject to preliminary examination to evaluate the anisotropy of filtration and physical properties. Azimuth anisotropy of microstructure and pore space was experimentally found in carbonate rock sample with complex pore space structure. On the basis of digital image processing an important conclusion has been drawn for predominant influence of large-pore space on azimuth anisotropy of filtration properties, which should be taken into consideration in hydrocarbon deposit extraction.

Artykuł przedstawia metody i wyniki badań mikroskopem elektronowym anizotropii mikrostrukturalnej i przestrzeni porowej próbek skały węglanowej. Próbki te zostały wstępnie zbadane, aby ocenić anizotropię filtracji oraz ich właściwości fizyczne. W wyniku eksperymentu stwierdzono anizotropię azymutalną mikrostruktury i przestrzeni porowej na próbce skały węglanowej o złożonej strukturze przestrzeni porowej. Na podstawie przetworzonego cyfrowo obrazu wyciągnięto ważny wniosek - o dominującym wpływie przestrzeni o dużych porach na azymutalną anizotropię właściwości filtracyjnych, który należy wziąć pod uwagę podczas eksploatacji złóż węglowodorowych.

Quantities of improvised explosive devices on a base of industrial explosives that were applied at criminal incidents or were withdrawn from illegal circulation were reduced on average on 9% during last decade. This tendency is explained in particular by toughening of control under circulation of commercial explosive devices. The most commonly used improvised explosives according to returns of The Forensic Science Center of Ministry of Internal Affairs are mixtures on a base of ammonium nitrate with organic fuels and aluminum powder. Quantitative and qualitative compositions of such improvised mixtures can be various. The most essential question for a criminal case investigator is argument that excepted substance is explosive one. In this connection detonability of the mixtures on base fne (particle size was near 20 microns) and granulated ammonium nitrate with some organic fuels and aluminum powder was experimentally investigated. Failure detonation diameters of systems were measured experimentally.
