W większości krajów rozwiniętych, osoby w starszym wieku stanowią najszybciej zwiększającą się liczebnie grupę w populacji – szacuje się, że do 2030 roku 25 % populacji stanowiły będą osoby powyżej 65 roku życia. Oznacza to, że w najbliższych latach znacznemu zwiększeniu ulegnie liczba posiadaczy prawa jazdy w starszym wieku. Samochód staje się niezbędnym narzędziem organizacji codziennej aktywności. Pomimo kosztów (zwiększona liczba wypadków, hałas, zanieczyszczenia), podróżowanie samochodem połączone jest z aktywnością, wolnością i możliwością wyboru, a związek pomiędzy mobilnością a wysoką jakością życia jest bardzo silny. Dotyczy to zwłaszcza u osób starszych, dla których podróżowanie w inny sposób jest zwykle bardzo uciążliwe i trudne. Artykuł omawia zagadnienia związane z uczestnictwem starszych kierowców w ruchu drogowym, w tym między innymi aspekty zdrowotne i psychologiczne wpływające na sprawność za kierownicą.

In majority of developed countries elderly people make up the fastest growing age group in the society – it is being estimated that 25% of the population will consist of people over 65 until 2030. This means a considerable growth of elderly driving license owners in the following years. A car has become a necessary instrument in organizing daily activities. Despite the costs (increased number of accidents, noise, pollution), travelling by car is connected with feeling of being active, independent and having a choice. Therefore, a connection between the mobility and high quality of living is very strong, especially for elderly people, for whom travelling in other way is usually very inconvenient and difficult. The article discusses the issues connected with the particiaption of elderly drivers in road traffic, including health and psychological aspects affecting the driving proficiency.

The authors made an attempt of answering the question concerning the reasons of not making use of the outcome of extensive research carried out by Polish companies. The advantages of properly prepared and conducted marketing research are invaluable, regardless of the fact if they are made by a professional researching company or on your own. Although the range of the phenomenon does not seem to be wide, it is still surprising that me most valuable data a company may nowadays have, can be ignored. The author's conclusions were supported by die previous results obtained from the research that had been conducted by post among the Polish enterprises and research companies operating on the market.
