Big-step Operational Semantics Revisited

In this paper we present a novel approach to big-step operational semantics. This approach stems from the observation that the typical type soundness property formulated via a big-step operational semantics is weak, while the option of using a small-step operational semantics is not always an option, because it is less intuitive to build and understand. We support our claim by using a simple language called LM, for which we present a big-step semantics expressed with the new approach, allowing one to formulate a stronger type soundness property. We prove this property for LM and we present an example of an error in the typing rules which does not violate the typical type soundness property, but does violate ours.

Na podstawie danych zebranych w ramach Państwowego Monitoringu Środowiska w ostatnich 25 latach (1977-2003) dokonano analizy zmian wskaźników jakości środowiska wodnego w zlewni zbiornika Czorsztyńskiego oraz samego zbiornika. Opis zmian wybranych parametrów fizykochemicznych i biologicznych został poprzedzony charakterystyką zlewni i jej warunków hydrologicznych. Dyskusja prezentuje trendy zmian czasowych poszczególnych parametrów, jak i związki pomiędzy nimi.

Water environment quality data from the upper Dunajec watershed collected by the state monitoring service in the last 25 years (1977-2003) were examined to asses the evolution of water environment quality indicators and evaluate the status of the watershed and the recently constructed Czorsztyn Reservoir. The characterization of the watershed and its hydrology is followed by the presentation of physico-chemical and some biological descriptors. The discussion emphasizes the temporal trends and links between various observations.
