The main elements of a project are planning and control. Before any project begins it should be planned. There are some very specific tools available to help plan and manage projects. This group of tools includs two main: network diagrams (PERT charts, CPA/CPM) and GANTT charts. A network chart is a diagram showing the sequence in which the activities in the project must be carried out, the durations of each task, the critical path and slacks for this tasks, which are not on the critical path. GANTT chart shows the tasks on a time-scaled diagram. It is an ideal communication tool, because of an easiness in construction and interpretation. Both of above named tools answer the questions what is to be done, when and in which order. They are coverd in depth in this article.
